Background
Oxfam IBIS’ Inclusive Peacebuilding team currently works with Oxfam Country Offices and civil society partners in more than 10 conflict-affected countries in Southern, East and West Africa, MENA and Latin America, to support community-level mediation and reconciliation and civil society led peacebuilding through programming and policy efforts to advocate for inclusive peace processes at local, national and global levels. Our peacebuilding work takes a conflict sensitive and inclusive approach with a strong focus on supporting local partnerships, working with and supporting women and youth organisations, where the Women, Peace & Security (WPS) agenda is one of our priority focus areas. Oxfam IBIS is currently looking to recruit a short-term Peacebuilding Advisor until the end of 2021 to support the Inclusive Peacebuilding Team and take lead on a number of peacebuilding projects and initiatives.
Main Areas of Focus & Tasks
Duration
From mid-August (or earlier if possible) to 31 December 2021. Ideally, we are looking for a candidate for a full-time position (37 hours per week), though part-time modalities could be explored.
Location
The position is based in Copenhagen, Denmark, though telecommuting options could be explored depending on a candidate’s personal situation.

Main Areas of Focus & Tasks
- Take lead on Oxfam IBIS’ partnership with the PeaceNexus Foundation, focused on strengthening conflict-sensitivity approaches in selected Oxfam Country Offices. This would involve a combination of providing substantive support to Country Office teams on conflict sensitivity, conflict analysis and programming as well as operational and administrative actions to ensure the smooth running of the partnership.
- Support the Team’s multi-country project portfolio evaluation, which is led by an external consultant. Tasks may include coordinating the review of evaluation tools and approaches, providing substantive inputs and technical steer, outreach and support to Country Office teams and leading the dialogue with the external consultant.
- Support the collection and documentation of project learnings and results through review of existing country project reports and other relevant documentation and take lead on shaping a compendium which would serve as a key reference for Oxfam IBIS’ work on peacebuilding going forward.
- Depending on the profile of the candidate, other tasks could include support to Inclusive Peacebuilding Team’s partnership with Oxfam Colombia as well as advocacy and programming activities related to Women, Peace, and Security.

Competencies
Functional Competencies:
- Knowledge and practical experience in peacebuilding programming and advocacy, including familiarity with conflict analysis, conflict-sensitivity, and peacebuilding programme design;
- Prior experience with project management in an international development context, including design, coordination and implementation;
- Committed to rights-based and inclusive approaches;
- Experience working with women rights organisations and/or youth organisations in the context of peacebuilding/conflict prevention considered a strong advantage;
- Spanish language skills (written and spoken) is considered a significant advantage;
- Ability to and interest in working in a multicultural and multilingual work environment as you will be engaging with Oxfam Country Offices and Affiliates worldwide.
Required Skills and Experience
Academic Qualifications:
- University Degree in social science, sociology, political science, conflict & peace building, or any other related field.
Experience:
- Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in peacebuilding programming;
- Proven knowledge and experience working in peace building and conflict prevention mechanisms at the local and national level;
- Previous work experience in fragile country contexts (NGO, UN, or other) or from previous positions working in close collaboration with civil society partners in fragile country contexts considered an advantage.
