Denmark wants to take a leading role in the green transition of energy sources as it holds vast geothermal ressources and subsurface storage potential, for instance storage of CO2, hot water and hydrogen. GEUS is actively engaged in the evaluation, de-risking, and optimisation of the numerous ongoing geoenergy and storage projects by applying our multi-disciplinary and integrated expertise and research.
As numerical modeling of fluid flow in the subsurface reservoir plays a vital role in these evaluations, we are inviting applicants for a position as senior consultant within numerical modeling and simulation of reservoir performance.
Job description
Numerical modelling of multiphase flows in the subsurface and in the wells is an important ingredient in the quantitative assessments of performance of specific geological sites for CO2 storage, energy storage, and geothermal energy production. This modelling is able to answer some of the key questions related to storage capacity and injectivity/productivity, which are important for decision making on site comissioning and operation.
Specific tasks for this position include:
The successful applicant will work together with colleagues representing a broad variety of expertise within the Department of Geoenergy and Storage, other GEUS departments and external partners.
Your qualifications
The appointment will be made on the basis of academic qualifications. Candidates must hold a PhD degree as well as academic qualifications equivalent to those obtained by holding a position as a researcher.
Upon appointment, particular emphasis is placed on the following qualifications:
The successful candidate should be proficient in both Danish and English. Non-Danish speaking applicants are required to learn Danish to a reasonable level within the first 12 months of employment.
Department of Geoenergy and Storage
The departmenet carries out reasearch and research based consulting within subsurface energy and storage matters. We also act as advisors to authorities and the Danish Ministry for Climate, Energy and Utilities. The work at the department is largely shaped by the UN sustainability goals #6 (sustainable energy) and #13 (climate), which are reflected in the GEUS strategy. With the current political engagement towards carbon neutrality, a growing activity level within CO2 storage, energy storage, and geothermal projects is anticipated in the near future. There are approximately 25 employees in the department including researchers, consultants and laboratory technicians. The department includes 2 fully equipped inhouse laboratories: Advanced Core flow Laboratory and Organic chemistry and Petrography Laboratory.
We offer
Salary and conditions of employment
In accordance with the collective agreements between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the relevant eligible trade union. The appointment area is the Danish Ministry of Climate, Energy and Utilities and its institutions.
The Danish Ministry of Climate, Energy and Utilities considers diversity to be an asset and invites anybody interested, regardless of gender, age, religion or ethnicity to apply for the position.

Application
The application must include a letter of motivation, a CV, a list of publications with a separate indication of journal papers that are registered in ISI Web of Science, copies of any individual publications of particular relevance to the position (max. 3), PhD diploma and, if relevant, contact details of referees (max. 3).
Please, send your application via GEUS’ homepage www.geus.dk under Jobs and Education (Job og Uddannelse). Your application must be with GEUS no later than 12.00 midday (Danish time), monday 7 February 2022.
Applications received after the deadline will not be considered.
The appointment procedure
An expert academic assessment committee consisting of one internal and two external senior researchers will make an individual evaluation of applicants’ academic qualifications, where candidates are deemed qualified or non-qualified in relation to the position advertised. Then an appointments committee decide which of the qualified candidates they want to call for a job interview. The procedure is in accordance with “Circular on the appointment and assessment of academic staff at the Geological Survey of Denmark and Greenland”, Sections 4 and 7.
