The Department of Psychology, Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Copenhagen (UCPH), invites applications for a fully funded PhD-position from 15 august 2024.

The position and the project
The successful candidate will work on the project The Danish Refugee Cohort (DARECO), a longitudinal cohort study following Ukrainian refugees over time from their first year in Denmark and the years ahead. The project has a strong focus on mental health and on complex interactions between premigration and postmigration factors of importance for adaptation to life in Denmark. The project is conducted in collaboration between researchers in psychology and economics and has a strong cross-disciplinary focus.

Duties and responsibilities
The PhD-student will be central in the research project, being involved in and responsible for parts of the data collection. Most importantly, the PhD-student will be responsible for conceptualizing and conducting a subset of studies concerning psychological aspects on life as a Ukrainian refugee in Denmark. As such, data management and data analyses, as well as manuscript preparation and communication of research results to the scientific community as well as to relevant stakeholders will be central.

Competencies and opportunities
The PhD-student will be conducting quantitative epidemiological research based on survey and registry data. Experience with quantitative data analysis is a must. The candidate must be able to work independently under supervision. Collaborative skills and team spirit are in high regard. For the right candidate, there will be ample possibilities to influence the project and develop new project ideas within the project frame.

Supervision and research group
The PhD-student will be part of a research group at the Department of Psychology conducting psychological and epidemiological research on trauma, resilience, and general mental health issues. Further, the student will be part of a cross-disciplinary research group for the specific project spanning both psychology, epidemiology, and economics.

Scholarship in the 5+3 study programme
In order to be eligible for a scholarship in the 5+3 PhD study program the applicant must have completed a two year MSc degree program, or have earned 120 ECTS credits at an equivalent academic level before starting his or her employment. Applicants should check the study programs for more detailed descriptions of the entry requirements. PhD students are paid a salary in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC). The PhD student has a work obligation of up to 840 hours over the 3 year period of time without additional pay. The work obligation can include for instance teaching.

The research of the department covers a wide range of topics and methodologies, and has an international work environment. The social science campus is located in the inner city of Copenhagen, close to the metro and other means of transportation. The area is tranquil with the Botanical Gardens as backyard, while at the same time; it is quite lively with for example Torvehallerne nearby. Copenhagen is a lovely, vibrant, welcoming city with ample possibilities for active free time.
