We are offering a PhD fellowship in the area of public health dentistry at the research section for Oral Health, Society and Technology commencing March 1st, 2024, or as soon as possible.
Our group and research
The research group in public health dentistry is concerned with individual and societal consequences of poor oral health and treatment hereof and seeks ways to secure good oral health for all members of the society. We use many different approaches in describing challenges and developing solutions, incl. quantitative and qualitative methods.
Project description
The position will be under The DELIVER (DELiberative ImproVEment of oRal care quality) project, which is an EU funded project that aims to enhance the quality of oral care through deliberative dialogue and action involving citizens, patients, providers, payers, and policymakers. https://deliverproject.eu/
DELIVER will create a synergistic problem-solving ecosystem to convert deliberative dialogues into meaningful improvement of oral care quality. DELIVER consists of work packages entailing different sub-projects. The position will primarily entail work within work package 4 (WP4), which covers community oriented collaborative enterprises, addressing a well-known but still poorly understood public health problem: how to structurally maintain oral health at population level in Europe, and foster the healthy life span with good oral health and related wellbeing at population level in an inclusive manner through community based oral healthcare service delivery.

Job description
Your key tasks as a PhD student at SUND are:
As part of the DELIVER team and more specifically the WP4 team, being a collaboration between The Stichting Vrije University (The Netherlands) and the University of Copenhagen, you will contribute to the design, planning, execution, and evaluation of concrete sub-projects within the DELIVER project. In short, a population tailored community-based intervention program for the prevention of oral diseases must be developed through co-creation with stakeholders and subsequently implemented, tested, and evaluated. Internal reporting via “milestone” reports and external reporting to the EU via “deliverables” reports and further public reporting via scientific publications are to be delivered together with the WP4 team. Reaching out to and building good relations to stakeholders and maintaining and fostering good collaboration is a large part of the job. A combination of quantitative and qualitative research methods will be used, including individual and group interviews.
Key criteria for the assessment of applicants
Applicants must have qualifications corresponding to a master’s degree related to the subject area of the project. Please note that your master’s degree must be equivalent to a Danish master’s degree (two years).
The candidate must be fluent in oral and written Danish as all external activities including interviews are performed in this language. Further, the candidate must have solid experience in qualitative research and be able to independently prepare, undertake and analyse interviews and focus group discussions. Experience of co-creation projects with multiple stakeholders are preferred.

Place of employment
The place of employment is at the Department of Odontology, Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen. We offer creative and stimulating working conditions in dynamic and international research environment.
Terms of employment
The average weekly working hours are 37 hours per week.
The position is a fixed-term position limited to a period of 3 years. The start date is March 1st 2024, or as soon as possible
The employment is conditioned upon the applicant’s successful enrolment as a PhD student at the Graduate School at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen. This requires submission and acceptance of an application for the specific project formulated by the applicant.
The PhD study must be completed in accordance with The Ministerial Order on the PhD programme (2013) and the faculty’s rules on achieving the degree.
Salary, pension and terms of employment are in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Taxation and The Danish Confederation of Professional Associations on Academics in the State. Depending on seniority, the monthly salary starts at approximately 27,800 DKK/Roughly 3,700 EUR (October 2021 level) plus pension.

- Establishment of community based/local oral health care coalitions with whom co-creational design of oral health care quality improvements, targeted the specific community, are to be carried out and implemented.

- Carrying through an independent research project under supervision
- Completing PhD courses or other equivalent education corresponding to approximately 30 ECTS points.
- Participating in active research environments including a stay at another research team.
- Obtaining experience with teaching or other types of dissemination related to your PhD project

- Writing a PhD thesis on the grounds of your project
