About the Department for Bacteria, Parasites and Fungi
The position is located in the Sequencing and Bioinformatic Section as part of the Department for Bacteria, Parasites and Fungi at Statens Serum Institut. The department's purpose includes monitoring of bacterial infections in humans, monitoring of antibiotic resistance in bacteria, providing specialized diagnostic testing, and research and includes multiple specialities such as bioinformaticians, data scientists, software developers, epidemiologists, microbiologists, and molecular biologists.
The position
We are looking for a talented System Administrator to join our team at Statens Serum Institut. Our team works on Linux infrastructure for bioinformatics surveillance and research. The ideal candidate is passionate about technology and have experience working with a variety of systems. You will be responsible for maintaining and improving our Linux infrastructure, ensuring that it is always running smoothly and efficiently. Your work in this space will have a meaningful impact on public health data infrastructure.

Your education, experience and qualification
You have a bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, bioinformatics or related field. In addition to this, we expect you to have:
If you are selected, you will be working closely with the other four existing employees with similar skill sets. This is part of a larger team that has over 20 members. The tasks related to your job will be dynamic and you will be exposed to all aspects of data infrastructure with your work.

Terms of employment
Depending on your educational background and level of experience, salary and appointment terms will be based on:
The collective agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Federation of Professional Associations (AC) (overenskomst for akademikere i staten).
The position is temporary, full-time (2-year contract).

Your responsibility will be:
- Install and configure software, hardware, and networks
- Monitor system performance and troubleshoot issues
- Ensure security and efficiency of Linux infrastructure
- Manage user accounts and permissions
- Provide technical support to end-users
- Collaborate with other IT professionals to implement new systems and technologies
- Use of Ansible to automate system administration tasks
- Write Python and Shell scripts to automate tasks
- Work with Linux operating systems
Your education, experience and qualification
You have a bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, bioinformatics or related field. In addition to this, we expect you to have:
- 3+ years of experience in a similar role for Senior position / 1+ year of experience in a similar role for Junior position
- Strong knowledge of Linux operating system
- Excellent problem-solving skills
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills
- both oral and written skills in English
