This position is two-fold as you will both be managing a team as well as writing compelling documentation.
We are a team of dedicated technical communicators, instructional designers and localization project managers all encompassed in the Learning Experiences team. We write, localize and deliver customer focused help and training to support the entire Milestone product range.
We have grown into a considerable size that we now need a Manager for the Front-end Group that consists of five highly skilled technical communicators based in Denmark and Bulgaria. We are looking for you to help us drive forward our deliverables for our end-user audience. You must be willing to travel to our Bulgarian development site on a regular basis plus visit our Learning and Performance team in Oregon on occasion.
As a manager you:
- Ensure that your team members develop and grow
- Ensure that team processes and tools support Milestone’s overall goals
- Ensure that team deliverables are top quality, technically and linguistically correct, delivered on time, and are accessible through appropriate media
- People manage the technical communicators in the Front-end Group that is part of the Technical Communication department. Responsibilities include resource allocation, conducting 1:1s and team meetings, carrying out performance evaluations and development & competency planning.
- Lead and inspire direction in the team in close collaboration with the Back-end Group lead
- Work with your team to align all team and individual behavior with Milestone’s culture focus
- Continuously study and communicate Milestone strategy to your team. Translate vision and strategy into goals together with the Back-end Group lead.
As a technical communicator you:
- Research, plan and write easy to understand task-based documentation to help customers navigate the Milestone products in an effective way
- Build strong relationships with your product teams and other key work partners
- Build extensive knowledge and demonstrate ownership of the products that you document
- Write and edit intuitive UI text that supports the customer’s product experience
- Work with our other writers to help maintain and develop our authoring tool
- Edit and restructure existing content to comply with our writing standards
Qualifications and skills:
We are looking for someone with these professional skills:
- 2-3 years of experience people managing teams in software & IT, or you could be a senior writer with a passion to move into people management
- Strong customer focus
- Five or more years of delivering high-quality, technically accurate content
- Ability to plan and organize work in an efficient manner to meet deadlines
- Ability to learn new tools, technologies, and processes quickly and independently
- Experience with authoring tools such as Madcap Flare
- Knowledge of video surveillance software or other software products is a plus
- Native English speaker or similar proficient level in written and spoken English
