Would you like to make a difference to the way that we as a society address environmental and social impacts? Do you want to work with providing solutions towards management of environmental, social and governance (ESG) risks in the leading financial services group in the Nordics? We are now looking for a Senior ESG Analyst to drive development of data analysis and modeling to support a cross-functional team of experts working on such challenges.
This is an opportunity to leverage competencies from modeling, analysis, and research related to global process changes (e.g. climate change, biodiversity loss) and their economic impact.
At Nordea, we’re committed to being a partner our customers and society can count on. Compliance and integrity go hand in hand. Joining us means you’ll have an impact on how we do banking – today and tomorrow. So bring your ideas, skills and unique background. With us, you’ll be in good company with plenty of opportunities to collaborate, grow and make your mark on something bigger.
About this opportunity
Welcome to the Credit Risk Analysis team. We add value by being responsible for Nordea’s key management reporting products and portfolio analyses on credit risk to the Group’s senior management, as well as developing and implementing related data-driven analytical solutions. As Senior ESG Analyst, you’ll play a valuable role in closely cooperating with experts in other Nordea teams who are focused on building solutions for climate risk stress testing and developing processes to integrate ESG analysis into the Group’s credit risk portfolio reporting
What you’ll be doing:
- Taking a leading role in developing and implementing ESG data sourcing and ESG analysis methods that will be integrated to the existing credit risk data platform and analytical framework, in close cooperation with other team members and stakeholders working in the credit risk space
- Finding bespoke solutions to data challenges, combining multiple sources and qualities of internal and external data across different layers of granularity
- Innovating answers to incorporate new channels for economic impact from ESG risks within Nordea’s current modeling approaches related to assessment of ESG impact on specific customer segments and the Group’s overall credit portfolio
- Building up ESG risk assessment processes to be utilised by other units, requiring you to develop clear manuals and support other users towards implementation
- Sharing ideas and inputs to support a growing Methodology Team in the unit, which provides coordination and leadership on ESG risk integration across the Group
The role resides in the Group Credit Risk Control (GCRC), reporting to the Head of the Credit Risk Analysis. This is a great opportunity to join a dynamic team of experts who drive continuous improvement in the quality and effectiveness of the Group’s credit portfolio analysis to support senior management decision making and risk assessment. The role is based in either Helsinki or Copenhagen.
Who you are

To succeed in this role, we believe that you:
- Strong data management and quantitative analytics capabilities
- Good understanding of both environmental and economic modeling approaches, with strong understanding of environmental economics theory and practice
- Experience working with decision problems related to climate change and/or other global dynamic changes, e.g. biodiversity loss, water scarcity
- Highly motivated with a genuine interest in development of new methods and processes for ESG risk challenges
- Effective at communicating your results to a broad audience, both technically and narratively to ensure uptake and implementation of your results by others
- You prioritise your work quickly and focus on finding solutions even in challenging circumstances
Your experience and background:
- You are a team player with a positive, collaborative, and pro-active attitude
- Results-oriented and motivated, willing to support other units to ensure that colleagues succeed in leveraging your outputs
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant field (agricultural economics, forestry economics, environmental economics, environmental science, economics or similar)
- Fluent in English – written and spoken
