Who are we?
Humanitarian Disarmament & Peacebuilding (HDP) is one out of five core sectors within Danish Refugee Council (DRC) which specialises in Humanitarian Mine Action and Peacebuilding. DRC is a non-profit organisation that works worldwide to help and protect refugees, internally displaced people (IDPs) and other conflict-affected persons.
The HDP mission is to create a safe environment where people can live free from armed violence and remnants of conflict. HDP strives to achieve this through Humanitarian Mine Action (HMA) activities, focusing on landmines and explosive remnants of war (ERW), as well as Peacebuilding programmes. The Peacebuilding component of our programming addresses both physical and psycho-social aspects of the threats posed by small arms and ERW. HDP’s work is vital in helping refugees, internally displaced people and other communities return to their homes when the conflict has ended, allowing them to make use of the land they were forced to leave behind and facilitating development.
About the internship
The HDP unit is looking for an intern who will work at the DRC headquarter in Copenhagen. The intern will have the opportunity to become acquainted with the work within an international NGO and will have tasks related to supporting information management as well as general support to the country programmes. The intern will be given the possibility to work independently with different tasks that are related to their area of study and will be given a thorough introduction to the working relations at the headquarters of an organisation that implements HMA and Peacebuilding in more than 20 countries.
Key Tasks:
- Communicate with different stakeholders in order to collect information required for various work processes ranging from grants management to proposal writing procedures.
- Maintain and update the organisation’s file storage systems, i.e. collect, store and disseminate a set of documents (reports, reviews, etc.) in a periodic and systematic manner.
- Collect data for the production of e.g. fact sheets and infographics.
- Help organise meetings and appointments as well as produce and distribute minutes of meetings.
- Act as a point of contact for ad hoc queries and requests for administrative support coming from the field and/or HQ.
- Support in the Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) processes in terms of making output indicators available and handling data collection.
- Assist with preparation, formatting and proofreading of documents related to project proposals.
- Work closely together with the Student Assistant and the Admin Coordinator.
About you
The intern will be working individually and alongside other colleagues on matters concerning information, quality and data management. The intern is the focal point for receiving data from HDP’s country operations all over the world and will thus benefit from getting a close view and understanding of the outputs of a large humanitarian INGO. The intern should be able to meet the following requirements:
- Be effective in the use of Office 365 and have solid knowledge of Excel (being able to work with formulas and pivot tables).
- Have good interpersonal and communication skills.
- Be able to work independently as well as in a team.
- Be able to work systematically with a good structure for the tasks that you are responsible for.
- Have an eye for the detail and strive to get the job done.
- Be fluent in both written and spoken English.
- Interest in information management, international affairs, and development work is an asset
It is a requirement that you are enrolled at a university at master level (this is a prerequisite for the internship) to be considered for the internship. Therefore, applicants should be pursuing:
- A graduate level degree in International Relations, Political Science, Development Studies or other related social science studies. Additionally, a degree in e.g. Information Science, IT and Administration, IT and Economics, Business Administration, and alike are also strongly encouraged to apply.
All employees and interns in DRC should master DRC's core competencies: Communicating, Taking the lead, Collaborating, Striving for excellence and Demonstrating integrity.
We offer
Contract length: 5 months
Workplace: DRC Headquarters located Borgergade 10, Copenhagen
The intern will report to the Head of Humanitarian Disarmament and Peacebuilding and be supervised by the Admin Coordinator.
Start date: 22nd August 2022. We can be flexible on the start date but prefer if you join no later than 1 September 2022 so that you can participate in our introduction programme for all new interns
Working hours: Approximately 30 - 37 hours per week, subject to study requirements and further dialogue. We offer flexibility when you have study obligations next to the internship.
The internship is not paid but we offer:
- 2,08 (unpaid) vacation days per month. The days can either be spent as you earn them or be accumulated
- Free lunch in our canteen (subject to our canteen being open)
- Free participation in our year-end party
Please note that if you do not have the right to work in Denmark (through nationality or existing work visa), you will need to apply for it if selected for the internship. DRC does not cover the costs related to your application for a work permit.
Application process
All applicants must send a cover letter (1 page only), an updated CV in English, a minimum of two references, official transcript of your completed courses at your university, a certificate of enrollment at your university. If you are applying for more than one internship with DRC, please indicate so in your cover letter. Apply online on our page Current Vacancies at drc.ngo.
Please submit your application, in English and marked “Information Management Intern – DRC Copenhagen”.
Closing date for applications: 1 May 2022. We expect to conduct interviews on May 9th and 10th at DRC Headquarters in Copenhagen.
