Who are we?

DRC is Denmark's largest international non-governmental organisation. We work with humanitarian and development activities to ensure a dignified life for refugees, the displaced, and displacement-affected people and communities in 40 countries.

We focus our assistance on the entire displacement process: from the moment a crisis emerges and displaces people internally in their home countries or across borders, to these people’s life in camps, to their arrival in a foreign country, and ultimately to the process of rebuilding a normal life, either through voluntary return, local integration or resettlement.

Supporting innovation across our organisation and portfolio, and developing the right kinds of partnerships to do so, is central to our strategy. This position focuses on managing and further developing this innovation and partnerships portfolio.

About the job

The Innovation and Partnerships Specialist is a key position within the Programme Innovation and Business Engagement Unit. The unit focuses on driving selected thematic innovation agendas, support DRC’s entire organisation in using innovation as a problem solving method and support the development of partnerships, including with the private sector, to advance DRC’s mission.

The Innovation and Partnerships Specialists is responsible for managing and further developing the unit’s innovation service offer to the DRC organisation. This includes coordinating the development of tools and guidance on innovation process and project design and management, coordinating the programming of the internal DRC innovation flexible funding mechanism and managing and developing partnerships in support of DRC’s innovation portfolio.

Specific responsibilities

  • Ensure organisational tools, guidance and advisory services are in place to support programme innovation and programme innovation related learning
  • Scope, develop and manage partner relations in support of programme innovation and programme innovation related learning
  • Lead the design, coordination, internal- and external mobilization for- and implementation of DRC’s programme innovation event(s)
  • Portfolio management, learning support and communications related to DRC innovation fund supported programme innovation initiatives
  • Contribute to cross-cutting priorities in the Programme Innovation and Business Engagement Unit
  • Contribute to fundraising for the programme innovation portfolio

About you

The key factors to succeed in this position is a combination of drive, technical expertise and ability to mobilize internal and external stakeholders around the cause of innovation in a humanitarian organisation. You may come from the private or public sector, from consulting or corporate innovation, from start up or academia, or an organisation comparable to DRC. Your specific background is less important than your experience with innovation process management and/or partnerships and your ability to learn quickly, work independently but always with others and your ability to transfer and adapt your technical insights on innovation to the specific context of DRC. You may have experience in the humanitarian and development field, or you may be able, willing and ready to learn quickly about the context DRC works in.

All employees should master DRC's core competencies: Striving for Excellence, Collaborating, Taking the Lead, Communicating and Demonstrating Integrity.

Specifically, we expect the following:

Required

  1. Hands-on experience, one year minimum and preferably more, with innovation process management or related innovation and learning activities, regardless of the specific sectors where this experience has been build up
  2. Direct experience in coordinating complex processes, ideally around funding allocations and portfolio management, and ability to mobilize and work with a wide range of different stakeholders
  3. Understanding of the operating context of an organissation like DRC, or ability and willingness to quickly build up this understanding once in the role
  4. Ability to work independently and ensure progress and deliverables within area of responsibility, while being part of a team, collaborating with others and contributing to cross cutting work streams
  5. Fluency in English
  6. University degree (Bachelor or Master’s degree) within social science, business administration or other relevant degrees.

Desirable

  1. Experience with developing guidance and tools on innovation and learning related topics for non-technical staff
  2. Experience in arranging events, online, in-person or hybrid for multiple stakeholders
  3. Experience with programming in humanitarian and contexts in sectors of relevance to DRC
  4. Ability to work in Danish and/or Frenchan advantage

We offer

Contract length: 10 months (maternity cover). There might be a possibility for a couple of months’ extension, subject to further planning

Workplace: DRC HQs in Denmark. Expect travel of 30-45 days annually

Start date: preferably 25th November 2023, start date is negotiable, but no later than 1st Jan 2024.

Salary and conditions will be in accordance with the agreement between DRC and AC. The position is at “fuldmægtig” level. This is a national position for which local terms and conditions apply.
