About the Job
DRC is looking for a highly qualified Global Lead on Mixed Migration to contribute to the ongoing development of the organization’s strategy to assist people on the move and to support regional and country-level teams to operationalize the strategy in alignment with humanitarian principles and DRC’s programmatic approaches. The position will be responsible for maintaining the relevance of the organization’s strategic direction on all matters pertaining to mixed migration, for developing technical standards and processes for programming designed to assist people on the move and to contribute to external engagement and policy discussions on the topic of mixed migration.
The position will initially focus on leading the development of a 5-year multi-region, multi-country, routes-based project. This will entail a combination of leading technical design processes in collaboration with sector leads, coordination between regions, countries and partners, and proposal writing. Upon completion of the proposal (estimated by November 2024), the position will re-focus towards broader organizational strategy development and technical support.
Strategy
- Lead the development of and updates to programmatic strategies pertaining to DRC’s provision of assistance to people on the move and communities along migration routes. This will also entail contributions to the organization’s approach to advocacy as well as business development pertaining to mixed migration.
Technical Assistance
- In collaboration with sector leads, rovide technical expertise on issues pertaining to mixed migration programming. This entails maintaining in-depth knowledge of mixed migration trends, the situations and needs encountered by people on the move, international policies pertaining to mixed migration and the design and implementation of programming assisting people on the move.
- Act as a primary point of contact with the Mixed Migration Center (MMC) and ensure DRC’s mixed migration strategy and programming is informed by the knowledge generated by MMC. MMC (https://mixedmigration.org) is part of DRC but acts as an independent source of data, research, analysis and policy development on mixed migration for policy makers, practitioners, journalists, and the broader humanitarian sector.
- Contribute to the development of operational guidelines for delivering mixed migration programming in alignment with DRC’s response framework and core sectors. This will entail the development of global level guidance and tools as well as the provision of technical support to and training of programme teams at regional and country levels.
- In collaboration with the Evidence, Knowledge and Learning team, regions and country offices, coordinate the generation of learning and knowledge on mixed migration programming. This will entail the identification and documentation of operational program models and best practices pertaining to mixed migration.
- Collaborate with DRC’s business development team and contribute technical and knowledge-related inputs to business development processes and products pertaining to mixed migration.
- Lead global level proposal development processes for the development of concept notes and responses to calls for proposals related to mixed migration and provide technical support and quality assurance of regional and country-level concepts and proposals.
- Supervise or manage globally led mixed migration projects or initiatives.
Representation
- Initiate and coordinate an internal community of practice within DRC with staff involved in the design and implementation of mixed migration programming and engaged in policy and advocacy.
- Represent DRC in communities of practice and with external stakeholders. This will entail building and maintaining relationships and networks with governments, UN agencies, other NGOs and civil society organization and research and academic institutes working on issues pertaining to mixed migration.
About you
To be successful in this role we expect you to have at least 5 years of experience in a similar role providing regional or global technical advice on issues pertaining to mixed migration within an international NGO or UN agency. In addition to expertise in mixed migration, qualified candidates will have generalist knowledge across DRC’s core sectors, will be well versed in programme design and implementation, and be adept in engaging in policy-related discussions.
Required
- At least 5 years of experience in a similar technical advisory role for an international NGO or UN agency.
- Demonstrated experience leading the design and implementation of mixed migration strategies and programming.
- Demonstrated experience contributing to external representation and policy-related discussions pertaining to issues of mixed migration.

We Offer
Contract length: 6 months with possibility of extension. DRC will offer an initial 6-month contract with the possibility to extend into a longer-term position pending funding.
