Introduction to the position
In the role as Global Lead HW you will be the Head of Global Hardware Development. The department is responsible for the development of platforms within digital-, analog- and radiofrequency hardware for Cobham SATCOM's existing and upcoming maritime and land mobile terminals, as well as steerable antennas for use in satellite systems operating at L-band and K-band frequencies.
In the position as Global Lead HW you will be leading the hardware team, assisting with the development process for Engineering projects. You will be managing the full product life-cycle and strategically improve the engineering infrastructure of the business.
The department consists of a total of 45 highly skilled employees who are experts in different disciplines such as RF, Antenna, DHW, AHW, Layout, Tech and Power. You will be collaborating closely with the 6 team leads, who are responsible for each of their different areas.
Responsibilities
As Global Lead HW you will be responsible for line management of the global disciplines pool of R&D employees, where you will be responsible for providing comprehensive specialist support and technical sparring to projects and programs enabling the team leaders and project managers to make decisions based on good quality information and assurance. You will also be a part of the R&D management team.
Additionally, as Cobham SATCOM has been going through a transformational and organizational restructuring, another important focus in the role will be to stabilize the team, in a present, safe, and trustworthy way. You will have a key position in managing and facilitating the processes around the team and pay attention to their inputs/perspectives and ensuring that impediments are removed.
More specifically, in the role as Global Lead HW, half of your time will be dedicated to collaborating closely with the team, the project managers, and the outsourced suppliers, where you will be the lead in setting the direction going forward.
The other half of your time will be dedicated to time management, resource balancing and communicating the goals clearly to the team as well as motivating and coaching the employees. Thus, it is expected that you are able to communicate clear about the organizational goals and convey the overall strategic direction to the teams.
The R&D management team is located across all three development sites (Denmark and US). As Global Lead HW, your team (line function) is located across the two sites in Denmark, but the technology is used globally, so collaboration across the teams in Europe and US is a central part of this role.
Technical skills
· 6+ years of experience in embedded hardware design
· Solid experience with engineering processes, practices and measures of performance within the field of hardware and electronics
· Significant design engineering expertise in electronics hardware and software systems
· An understanding of other R&D disciplines - hardware, software, and mechanical
· Experience in leading a multi-functional R&D / Engineering team (could also be from a project management role)
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
