This role plays a key part connecting the design to manufacturing for our blades development. You will have the opportunity to work with some of our passionate colleagues across the globe.

The Materials & Process team is responsible for manufacturing process design, development and ongoing support for blades production for wind turbines. The team is made up of passionate employees located in both Lem Denmark and Isle of Wight UK.

The process team supports both new product developments for all our blades factories around the world during that are in running production.

Recently the area of responsibility for the team has grown and we are therefore looking for new colleagues to help us with our new and existing challenges.

The new process development engineers will become a part of a team of engineers and technicians, who are responsible for manufacturing process design and development in relation to blade manufacturing.

Responsibilities
This is an exciting position involving travel to Vestas blades manufacturing facilities around the world working on existing products but also participating in development projects for the wind turbine blades of the future.

The new Process Development Engineering positions will primarily cover Blade manufacturing process design and development - for new products and processes including:

  • Define and develop blade manufacturing concepts based on design specifications given from our blade design team. Prepares, evaluates, and implements methods, processes, and techniques that support process design to improve performance, reliability, and maintainability for the Vestas blades
  • Verify and test new blade manufacturing concepts in laboratory environments and subscale production environment. Verify new blade manufacturing concepts fully in production environments
  • Develop and maintain PFMEA's and control plans for new products and processes. Define and develop NDT methods to be used in blade production. Develop Process Requirement Specifications (PRS). Maintain blade Design drawings with process information
  • Communicating the build methods to manufacturing by creating and maintaining work Instructions. Defining and maintain drawings for procured parts used in the blade designs
  • Define and specify laser positioning for blade manufacturing, including CAD drawing updates
  • Develop and maintain consumables / non-structural TPS (Technical Purchase Specifications) for blade production materials
  • Engineering Change Management. Case handle ECRs related to the above topics and secure controlled implementation
  • Work closely together in cross functional teams with PE tooling development & support, and the PE training team to ensure alignment within PE. Further collaboration with other engineers and technicians across the organisation to ensure stable production processes

Qualifications

  • You will hold a bachelor or master’s degree in engineering or equivalent. Preferably chemical engineering, production engineering, mechanical engineering or similar subjects coupled with practical knowledge of composite manufacturing e.g. infusion technology, Pre-preg, component assembly, coating and spray painting
  • Experience with thermoset resin systems such as Epoxy and Polyurethane chemistry
  • NDT methods such as Thermography, Ultrasonic Testing or Laser Shearography
  • Experience with running optimisation and process development projects in manufacturing environments
  • Experience with Experimental design / Multivariable data analysis both planning and treatment of statistical data and tolerance analysis
  • PFMEA and control plans
  • Strong communication skills in English, orally and written

Additional Information
This position is located in Lem, Denmark. There will be travel to different locations across the world, approximately 20% of the time could be expected.
