The position You'll be part of the Software Products Department in Data Management and Informatics at Digital Science & Innovation (DSI), providing digital solutions for Novo Nordisk R&ED researchers, driving data-driven decisions and accelerating breakthroughs in medicine. You will assume the role of leading a team consisting of up to 10 scientific data engineers/visualization experts, taking on people leadership responsibilities across global Novo Nordisk R&ED sites, while also managing external engineering consultants. Your role involves contributing to Software Products' strategy, supporting the DSI vision through precise estimations, and fostering relationships across the organization for agile talent alignment. Your responsibility will be to: Take on people leadership responsibilities, coach and mentor talented individuals through open-minded, curiosity-based conversations and support the development of their personal, scientific, and technical skills according to individual requirements and qualifications. You will also be responsible for administrative line management tasks. Ensure the professional excellence of scientific data and workflow as well as scientific data visualisation through the recruitment and retention of talented digital experts in close collaboration with your peers and the department head. Guide your team's learning journey, ensuring up-to-date data engineering and visualization skills and research informatics awareness through targeted training. Additionally, you'll promote knowledge exchange within and beyond the department, facilitating learning, process alignment, and professional networking. Proficiently overseeing colleagues at vital R&ED locations and diverse technology sites, fostering strong engagement. You'll collaborate closely with research IT project leads and product owners, aligning talent with opportunities based on individual skills, aspirations, and DSI's strategic context. Play a crucial role in advancing our agile delivery model by offering ongoing feedback, recognition, and development. Additionally, you'll help shape the Software Products department's collective mindset, fostering a shared purpose, self-driven growth, and purposeful risk-taking. Leverage your technical and scientific expertise, taking on roles as (lead) scientific data (or workflow) engineer, engaging with key stakeholders, to deliver of improve digital solutions that leverage scientific data to create insights for R&ED scientists. Qualifications To succeed in this role, you have: Bachelor’s Degree (Master or PhD preferred) and 5+ years of relevant experience working in digital science / research informatics and a proven track record of delivering digital solutions creating measurable value in life science or pharmaceutical research. Expertise in people development, leadership, and coaching, while also being an independent, curious, and quick learner dedicated to personal growth. Demonstrated exceptional leadership skills to drive impactful change, guide decision-making, and foster effective communication while setting an example as a Novo Nordisk Way role model. Solid working experience with multidimensional data sets in life science research, good technical understanding of databases (relational and/or graph), and experience in agile software development and corresponding tooling (e.g., GitLab, Azure DevOps). Preferably working experience with tools like Spotfire, D360, Pipeline Pilot, KNIME, Domino Data Lab. Awareness of the technology and vendor space for research informatics solutions, displaying consistent effort to stay up to date with recent developments. About the department Software Products Department is a part of Data Management and Informatics of Digital Science & Innovation (DSI). Within the Software Products Department, the Data Workflows & Visualisation team consists of experts with both scientific and technical background and have the skills to design, implement, and operationalize scientific data models, pipelines, and visualizations to enable R&ED scientists to derive insights. The team members closely collaborate with data governance teams and researchers to create impactful solutions to accelerate digitalization across R&ED. While working in different product teams, focussed on delivery, the Data Workflows & Visualisation team brings together individuals with similar competencies and capabilities, allowing for optimal talent development.
