The position
Recognized as a key leader in Novo Nordisk’s Data Science efforts, you will drive activities around the comprehensive integration of AI and Data Science activities within the larger technical ecosystem at Novo Nordisk.
You are a recognized expert in AI and ML systems, tools, approaches, and technologies for a variety of applications, including cloud architectures, cloud engineering, software engineering, and AGILE development practices.
Your responsibilities include:
As the Director of AI Tech Operations, you act independently as a leader, framing and driving innovation and project initiatives, aligned with the leading Corporate Vice President and collaborating closely with other AI/ML peer leaders. You lead a team of individuals to deliver on a portfolio of projects across multiple therapeutic areas and data modalities covering multiple drugs across all phases of development. These projects are highly scalable, reusable, consistent, in secure and enterprise enabled systems and platforms.
You leverage your domain knowledge in data engineering and algorithm development, as well as potential prior leadership experience, to ensure their team is developing and delivering solutions representing the latest state of the art in AI. You not only guide the team in the development of efforts which have a global impact on Novo Nordisk’s efforts in this area, but moreover, you are responsible for department budgets, recruiting, and other leadership activities.
Furthermore, the Director will actively coach more junior colleagues in both professional development and project execution, setting technical direction and influencing the progression of initiatives across team boundaries.
Qualifications
You have a Master´s or PhD degree within computer science, mathematics, engineering, physics, statistics, or a related quantitative discipline and minimum 8-10 years of relevant experience including mentoring and/or building a team of engineers and developing and deploying ML solutions in cloud environments such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform, as well as developing and working on Iaas and PaaS.

The AI and Analytics Team is part of Novo Nordisk’s Data Science division, where we apply sophisticated algorithms and machine learning techniques to some of the hardest problems in the discovery and development of new healthcare solutions. By leveraging a blend of scientific, problem-solving, and quantitative skills, we provide superior data insights that empower Novo Nordisk to further develop and deliver life-changing treatments. We work in multidisciplinary teams with strong collaboration across all areas of the organization and engage in external collaborations to ensure access to cutting edge research and technology.

- Recruit, manage and lead a global team to develop AI and ML solutions
- Collaborate across various data science, ML, AI, imaging, bioinformatics, real-world evidence and other research teams to build modern data-driven enterprise solutions
- Interface with business partners, including IT, to lead the development of cloud-based AI/ML technology stack that is high available, scalable, reusable, consistent and secure for the development and deployment of data science solutions
- Drive implementation of data science best practices within the team
- Be a company-wide influential thought leader across Novo Nordisk globally for identification and implementation of evidence-based solutions using data science.

- MLOps experience in terms of model monitoring, data drift detection, re-training implementation, model roll-back, for machine learning solutions
- Experience with continuous integration and continuous deployment best practices, including test automation and monitoring, to ensure successful deployment of ML models and application code as well as infrastructure as code
- Experience deploying and maintaining machine learning models with an eye towards system design and building frameworks that are scoped as well as extensible
- AWS software engineering experience, from architecture definition to IaC implementation, and experience designing APIs, service-oriented architectures, cloud-based distributed systems, containerization, and big data systems
- High proficiency in automating serverless, event-driven pipelines using AWS Platform Services including but not limited to: S3, Glue, Lambda, CloudWatch, Step Function, Data Pipeline, Batch, ECS, EKS, Docker, Fargate, DynamoDB, Aurora, RDS, EMR, Sagemaker, SQS, SNS.
- Familiar with Design Thinking, Agile, Scrum and Kanban ways of working using Jira/confluence or similar tools.
