Are you looking for an opportunity to apply your programming and data analysis skills to increase the understanding of and optimise future treatment of obesity? Then this may be your opportunity to kickstart an exciting career in a global organisation. We are seeking a talented postdoc to work within the Novo Nordisk led Innovative Medicines Initiative (IMI) project SOPHIA. Apply now! The position Obesity currently affects 150 million people in Europe and 650 million people worldwide and increases the risk of associated health concerns such as type 2 diabetes, gallbladder disease, liver disease and increased cardiometabolic and cancer risk. Finding a solution requires new knowledge about the biological underpinning of the disease and the development of a new shared narrative. The EU-funded Public-private Partnership project, Stratification of Obesity Phenotypes to Optimise Future Therapy (SOPHIA) aims to advance the growing body of evidence that obesity is the result of a complex pathogenesis with a biological basis, and that there are many discrete subpopulations of people with different types of obesity. As a Data Science Postdoc, you will contribute your data analysis skills to create evidence from clinical trials and observational data sources towards an advanced understanding of obesity. You will also support pharmacologists by applying machine learning methods to identify predictors of response to obesity treatments. You will be working in a team of data scientists, pharmacologists and stakeholders from across Novo Nordisk, other companies and academic partners in the IMI network. In this role, you are expected to build upon your knowledge of analytical methodologies and further develop and implement these into your daily work. Moreover, you are responsible for communicating your results and findings in a clear and convincing manner through various dissemination activities. The successful candidate will be involved in several tasks related to the project:
  • Perform multilayer integrative data analysis using federated machine-learning tools and models to identify biomarkers for patient stratification in terms of risk of obesity and response to treatment.
  • Conduct database normalisation and visualisation using reporting tools (e.g., Shiny).
  • Conduct project coordination and technical writing.
  • Collaborating with several partner institutes (pharmaceutical and academia).
  • Ensuring stakeholder management and clear communication of results.
  • Liaising with the Public-Private Partnership team for communication and publication activities.
  • Qualifications
  • PhD in Computer science, Pharmaceutical or other Life sciences, Physics, Bioinformatics, Mathematics, Engineering or equivalent.
  • Experience from the pharmaceutical, medical or biological area, with managing, analysing, documenting and programming large and complex data.
  • Experience transforming and analysing data by writing advanced, well-performing and maintainable code in either R (preferable) or Python.
  • Experience with machine learning methodologies, cloud computing and distributed or federated data analysis.
  • Well-organised and able to work both independently and in collaboration with others.
  • Fluent in English, both written and spoken (company language).
