Lead Specialist in Adhesives and Sealants to Velux Group – Ostbirk

As Lead Specialist, working out of VELUX’s Ostbirk location, you will become part of Applied Materials in the Advanced Material Technology organization. It is an organization with 18+ nationalities, who are dedicated to creating value and growth through innovative and sustainable material technology solutions. In other words, you will have a unique ‘playground’, where you will work with the best specialists in various technical areas spanning from chemistry, building physics and all the way to AI and digital solutions. Besides working with skilled colleagues, you will also engage suppliers / vendors that you sometimes co-create together with.
There will be a direct report to the Director Applied Materials, and very close collaboration with a Lead Specialist in the same area as yours, and who will retire within a short time frame, and who cannot wait to transfer all his knowledge to you.
Working location will at VELUX’s innovation center in Ostbirk in Denmark. Please note that VELUX is willing to fund a relocation and support in getting settled in Denmark.

As Lead Specialist in adhesives and sealants you will play a pivotal role in overseeing all aspects of adhesives and sealants discovery, development, and application use in VELUX. Your expertise in polymer science and engineering within adhesives and sealants will be instrumental in driving innovation, optimizing processes, and ensuring the highest quality standards for the products. You will collaborate with specialists and interact with cross-functional teams to develop and implement effective adhesive and coating strategies that align with the goals and priorities and adhere to a strong sustainability agenda. Some of your responsibilities will include to:
- direct and oversee the development activities related to the adhesives, sealants and coating areas, including material selection, characterization, and testing.
- evaluate and contribute to optimizing applications and production processes to ensure product performance, quality, and efficiency.
- collaborate with various departments, including product design, manufacturing, quality assurance, and supply chain, to ensure seamless integration of polymer technologies into product development and production processes.
- establish and implement quality assurance protocols and standards for adhesives and sealants applied on products to ensure compliance with industry regulations and customer requirements.
- provide technical expertise and support to internal and external stakeholders, including customers, suppliers, and regulatory agencies.
- lead projects from conception to completion, including defining project goals, timelines, and resource allocation.
- identify opportunities for process improvement, with a significant focus on sustainability, cost reduction, carbon footprint minimization, and performance enhancement through the application of new technologies, methodologies, and best practices.
- have flexibility in travelling 20-40 days yearly, mainly in Europe and occasionally overseas.

As a person, you enjoy working with multiple tasks and projects simultaneously, and with a constant eye for groundbreaking discoveries. Because you are dependent on your colleagues and organization, you prioritize to work cross-functionally in operational tasks and projects related to the development of new products and features. Furthermore, you are intrigued by the opportunity to become part of a large international organization (upwards, sideways, and downwards), and where you will adjust your communication depending on who, what, and why.
To be truly successful in this role, and to be able to take over the reins from a Lead Specialist with 30+ years of experience within the specialist area, there are some professional skills that we would like you to have a:
- Solid industrial experience with adhesives and/or sealants.
- Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering or a Ph.D. in Chemistry.
- Experience in implementing sustainable solutions in and around your product development processes.
- Fluent in English, in writing and verbally.
