Are you interested in the African region and eager to work with youth cross cultural divides aimed and deepening Social Change in the region? And do you want to gain insight into the work of ActionAid (Mellemfolkeligt Samvirke) and our Capacity Support for local organizations and activists? And are you passionate about mobilizing and organizing global youth for activities and Events?
Then you are the intern we are looking for, to take care of planning youth learning & cultural activities coordinated at our capacity building centre the Global Platform Kenya.
About ActionAid Denmark
ActionAid Denmark (Mellemfolkeligt Samvirke) fights poverty by promoting the political empowerment of the world's poor. ActionAid Denmark (AADK) supports long-term development work, education programs and campaigns as well as cross border exchange of experiences and knowledge between people. AADK works with partner organizations across the world and with Global Platforms as training hubs for local and global youth.
The Learning Responsibilities and Tasks
The intern will support GP Kenya in developing learning activities and events happening at the training centres in and around Nanyuki. As an intern at the Global Platform Kenya you will get the chance to work directly with youth activists in an African context and be a valuable addition and support to an active and innovative youth hub based in Nanyuki town. It is advisable to rent a room at the campus which is adjacent to an all-girls school that would not have otherwise accessed education that had not received a scholarship. We are surrounded by touristic encounters and destinations, some of world fame and we want to facilitate and inspire youth to take action and give them a space where they can inspire and learn from each other to tap into this markets for economic empowerment and accountability. Through activities, events, trainings and workshops, we want to give youth the space to unfold their philosophies and meet and exchange their ideas with youth from all over the world. The intern will in general organize and coordinate initiatives that can facilitate and support the GP and our Youth Hubs turn into vibrant and innovative spaces with a strong network of volunteers and activists around.
Throughout the internship there will be follow-ups and supervision and a final evaluation will be conducted. It is important to AADK that interns learn as much as possible during their internship. We believe that this is best achieved by giving you the opportunity to handle independent with responsibility while receiving useful and relevant feedback from us.
Your specific tasks will be:
● Support participants plan cross cultural interactions, youth economic empowerment initiatives, political awareness creation and learnings
● Plan and organise events and activities together with volunteers and colleagues – from identifying needs and interest, to contact local cooperation partners and carry out the actual activities
● Inspire creative thinking and innovation within teams through participatory concept development, nurturing of talents and feedback mechanisms.
● Writing newsletters and updates about the Activities and events happening at the GP
● Support and build up the network of volunteers and activists around the Global Platform
The Training, Event and Activity will the Intern refer to the Platform Manager and the Training Quality Coordinator.
Qualifications
You are currently enrolled in a relevant higher education such as Performance design, Sociology, Communication, African Studies. Pedagogy, Education Studies, Sociology, Political Science, Social Science, International Development, Global Studies
Professional qualifications:
● Good logistic skills – not afraid to be in charge of larger events
● Excellent research and writing skills
● Excellent networking skills
● Good knowledge of IT
● You are fluent in both spoken and written English
● Knowledge of the African Region is an asset
● Knowledge of AADK's training methods is an asset
Personal qualifications:
● You are creative, innovative and taking initiative comes natural to you
● You are culturally sensitive, diplomatic and able to compromise
● You enjoy working in an energetic environment and you are able to focus and prioritize in a hectic working environment
● You are committed, responsible and open-minded and you are able to handle stressful situations
● Engaged and able to take responsibility of own tasks and duties
● Able to deliver sometimes with short deadlines
ActionAid Denmark offers
The internship is unpaid but insurance is covered by ActionAid Denmark. Travel and all living costs are to be covered by the applicant. The intern is expected to bring their own laptop. Normal MS ActionAid Denmark
