The Danish Geodata Agency is looking for a hydrographic product specialist to work in the Danish Hydrographic Office. The Hydrographic Office is responsible for processing hydrographic surveying data and the nautical charting of Denmark and Greenland. We are looking for a skilled hydrographic data specialist who can work independently, in a team-oriented environment, can handle complex data and processes and are open to innovation.

The tasks The main task will be to take the lead on developing the depth data process from the hydrographic data review until it is available for charting.

In the Danish Hydrographic Office there is already an established process for how depth data is processed from receipt of data until it is published in our nautical products. However, we need a dedicated colleague to maintain and further develop this process, not least into the new standards, S-101 and S-102. Some of the responsibilities for the position will be:

  • assessment of data sources

  • establish processes and secure consistent data production into charts

  • quality control and quality assurance of the processes

  • maintenance of documentation

  • training and supervision of colleagues

Your role will be important in identifying improvement opportunities and helping implement these. Sometimes the devil is in the technical details, other times in the process interfaces – we can use your slalom skills. You feel comfortable as a team player, you enjoy working with others to help your organization succeed.

Your skills The most important skill for us is that you have good energy, the ability to collaborate and have the desire and potential to learn. We expect you to bring a problem-solving attitude to our organization and it is important you have the ability to cooperate on interdisciplinary and complex tasks.

For the position we expect you to have:

  • Practical experience in data processing and a solid understanding of the hydrographic processes, systems and IT as a hydrographer, experienced cartographer or other relevant disciplines.

  • A good knowledge and experience of working with spatial data, preferably in a Geographic Information System (GIS). The Danish Hydrographic Office uses ESRI.

  • Experience with processing of hydrographic data into nautical charts, both paper charts and ENC products.

It would be beneficial, but not a requirement, to have:

  • Experience with programming or scripting in Pyton or C#

  • An ability to understand international standards and transfer them to working practices

  • An ability to simplify complex processes.

Ideally, you will have an educational background in hydrography, nautical cartography, geology/geophysics, geography or land surveying, preferably with a navigation/surveying education and/or experience.

It is an essential requirement that you have a high level of oral and written English.

Salary and working conditions The terms of employment will be in accordance with the collective agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the relevant union organization, though with the opportunity for pay supplements. Your place of employment will be the Danish Ministry of Climate, Energy and Utilities and its ministerial institutions. The workplace is based in Aalborg. The working hours are 37 hours per week and it is expected that you are present in the office most days.

The Danish Geodata Agency's Hydrographic Office has a number of non-native Danish speaking employees. According to our language policy we use Danish for communication of organisational issues and expect employees to be able to understand and communicate in basic Danish within 2-4 years. We pay for language courses and part of the time to attend these, however we expect that employees also invest their own time in receiving Danish lessons.

There are good opportunities for relevant competency development.

It is a condition of employment that you can be security cleared and that you can maintain your clearance during employment. We aim to have the positions filled as soon as possible.
