About the job

You will be project-leading teams responsible for the delivery of the exhibitions, galleries and spaces that deliver the museum’s strategic narratives and enhance the visitors’ experience and engagement with the collection.

Working within the Exhibitions and Visitor Experience group, you will be a member of the Exhibitions team, leading interpretation for and project managing a portfolio of projects for the Natural History Museum of Denmark (NHMD). These include manage and install of the yearly Wildlife photographer of the Year, ongoing management of Wild Wonderful World (to open mid 2024) as well as collaborating with the museum management to create future temporary exhibitions as well as other visitor experience projects in the Botanical gardens.

This role will require a pragmatic mindset, a commitment to delivering quality and an ability to prioritise and problem solve. You will work closely with the curatorial, collections management, communications and fundraising, and commercial teams.

The Exhibition and digital team are responsible for developing key messages, initiating, developing and testing interpretive content, ensuring audience advocacy, working with curators to include consideration of informal learning design, interpretation strategy and

implementation, that the learning potential of the project is fully realised and that the appropriate consultation takes place when establishing specific audience needs, including evaluation and accessibility.

You will report to the Head of Exhibition and digital. You will work with curators, scientific researchers, educators, artists and designers, and our visitors to deliver clear high quality visitor experience that is unique, engagement and reflects the core values of NHM

Denmark.

You will be responsible for:

• Project leading of temporary exhibition projects at the Museum and spatial experiences in the Botanical gardens.

• Managing work and information flows for exhibition project team members

• Coordinating across all museum operations necessary for the delivery of the various aspects of a museum exhibition project

• Monitoring deadlines and budgets

• Ensuring overall production and installation of interpretive elements of the project on time and to budget; focus on delivery in a fast-paced dynamic environment.

This work will be a key contributor to ensuring a world-class NHM Denmark visitor experience that increases visitor engagement year on year.

Copenhagen University is an international institution, and you will be expected to work and write in English.

Qualifications

  • A relevant academic background from the field of natural history or equivalent
  • Minimum 3 years of working experience from a Natural history Museum
  • Experience with management of the exhibition “Wildlife photographer of the year” will be a great advantage
  • Experience of working with budgeting in Nimbus will be considered an asset
  • Past experience with exhibition delivery will be considered an asset

Furthermore are we looking for a candidate who can show:

  • Proven problem-solving and planning capabilities, along with experience in interpretation within a museum setting, or in a relevant field that uses museum exhibitions to engage with diverse audiences.
  • A passion for conveying academic knowledge, object engagement, scientific principles, and rich cultural history to diverse audiences.
  • Knowledge of interpretive best-practices, and an ability to bring to bear a broad range of interpretive tools and methods.
  • Experience developing exhibition content, an understanding of the access and diversity needs of a range of different audiences as they relate to galleries; knowledge of informal learning skills and techniques, communication and environmental design.
  • Experience of managing and delivering exhibition-related projects, ideally from conception through to completion.
  • A mature level of judgment and decision-making in a changing, forward-thinking operating and visitor focused environment.
  • The ability to explain interpretation concepts and approaches to people who are not specialists and to engage their support; an ability to manage multiple activities and responsibilities.
  • A high degree of patience, attention to detail, good humour and fortitude in managing relationships with various parties, including other departments, and external partners; demonstrated ability to forge mutually respectful and effective relationships with a diverse group of personalities.
  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills in English, knowledge of Danish will be considered an advantage.

Terms of salary and employment

The employment and salary is made in accordance with the Circular on the Collective Agreement concerning academics in the state sector concluded between the Ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations).

Employment will be as academic employee. The salary is based on seniority. Negotiation for salary supplement is possible.

The working time are 37 hours per week on average. The working hours are flexible.

The startdate is 1 August 2024 and the job is limited to 3 years.
