Description of the position The Danish Meteorological Institute (DMI) opens a full time, 4-year position with possibility for further extension, for an Administrative Project Manager to oversee international climate research projects, supporting DMI’s role as coordinator of international project consortia. The relevant projects are funded, e.g., under Horizon Europe, Copernicus and EUMETSAT. The position is in the Danish National Centre for Climate Research (NCKF) at DMI, where you will work in a department with a strong profile in climate research, modelling as well as remote sensing.

As our new colleague, you will be working in a newly formed unit in NCKF of project managers, administrative staff, climate advisory staff and other supporting functions to the existing three climate research units of NCKF.

You will work in a team of project managers and in close collaboration with project coordinators, the controlling and financial teams and the legal unit at DMI. Your tasks will include managing and coordinating practical and financial project requirements, facilitating scientific collaboration, undertaking project communication and disseminations tasks, internally and externally, and communication with, e.g., the European Commission. You will also be keeping track of project progress, milestones and deliverables besides supporting the consortium in preparing all required reports.

In the beginning of your employment you will be engaged with the management of upcoming Horizon Europe projects starting in January and February 2024, respectively, TipESM (https://www.tipesm.eu/) and ObsSea4Clim (ObsSea4Clim: Company Page Admin | LinkedIn) coordinated from DMI. Over time and based on your interests, you may also be involved in other projects and support both researchers and management in identifying relevant calls and grants for future applications.

Expected qualifications
  • A relevant education at the Masters level, with formal training in project management and experience working with scientific research projects.
  • Proven experience with project administration, ideally under the EU funding framework, including coordination of periodic reports, deliverables, milestones and management of amendments to the grant and consortium agreements.
  • Proven experience in dissemination, communication and stakeholder engagement at European level.
  • Previous work with funding agencies and research grant applications or budgets is an advantage
  • Experience working with multiple partners across different cultures, languages and times zones and/or stakeholder engagement is a plus.
  • Good problem solving skills and interest to work in a team with other project managers.
  • Proficiency in English is required and good organisational and communication skills are important.

TipESM and ObsSe4Clim are funded by the European Union, Horizon Europe Funding Programme for research and innovation under GA Nr. 101137673 and 101136548 respectively.

About DMI and NCKF The position is in the Danish National Centre for Climate Research (NCKF), which is a department at DMI. NCKF aims to conduct critical climate research for the Kingdom of Denmark (Denmark, Greenland and the Faroe Islands) and bring together climate knowledge to form the basis for green transition and climate adaptation. The activities include monitoring of the Arctic and assessment of observed and future climate change of the physical climate system, with a special focus on the Arctic, Greenland and on extreme weather and sea level around Denmark. Across the department, the research builds on both global and regional modelling as well as observations from remote sensing, in-situ measurements and field work.

NCKF employs approximately 60 staff members; the majority is climate researchers including PhD students, junior and senior scientists. We have a strong international profile, which is also reflected in the many nationalities employed and in a combined English and Danish working language.

Employment and salary Employment and salary will be according to the Danish Law and Agreements, depending on previous experience. It will be possible to apply for an addition to the basic salary. Employees, who are recruited from abroad, and who are able to meet certain conditions, have the opportunity to work in Denmark for a period of 60 months under a special 26 % tax rate without deduction, instead of working under the regular income taxation.

DMI offers a flexible working week of 37 hours including a paid lunch break, and six weeks of paid vacation annually. It is an advantage to be able to speak Danish but it is not a requirement.

Employment area: Danish Ministry of Climate, Energy and Facilities and associated institutions.

Work place: DMI, Sankt Kjelds Plads 11, 2100 Copenhagen Ø, Denmark. Physical presence is expected at least on a weekly basis.
