DRC is looking for a dynamic, well-organized and experienced project officer to support DRC’s Diaspora Project Support grant mechanism (DiPS). The project officer works closely with Afghan and Somali diaspora organizations to support their relief and development interventions in their former home countries, manage administrative grant mechanism processes, and support outreach and communication to diaspora organizations and their partners.

About the job

You will be part of the Civil Society Engagement Unit (CSEU) that supports and strengthens DRC’s engagement with civil society internationally. Part of CSEU, DRC’s Diaspora Programme works directly with diaspora actors to facilitate and strengthen their work in support of persons and communities affected by displacement.

The DiPS Project Officer will join CSEU with a specific focus on supporting the Diaspora Project Support grant mechanism. Via DiPS, DRC co-finances relief and development activities in Somalia and Afghanistan led by diaspora organizations, provides technical support and offers trainings and workshops to support diasporas as agents of change.

Your main duties and responsibilities

Administrative management of the DiPS grant mechanism

  • Administrative management of the DiPS grant mechanism, including being point of entry for the implementing diaspora organizations and assisting them with administrative and procedural compliance;
  • Screening and analyzing incoming diaspora project proposals, including supporting diaspora organizations with the development and preparation of project proposal documents;

Capacity strengthening for diaspora organizations

  • Supporting the organization and coordination of DiPS capacity development trainings;
  • Conducting regular individual meetings with diaspora organizations to support the development and implementation of their projects in Afghanistan and Somalia;
  • Supporting the planning and execution of the Annual Grand Meeting where diaspora Advisory Boards are elected;
  • Day-to-day liaison with DiPS field officers in Afghanistan and Somalia on project implementation and follow-up on monitoring;

Diaspora outreach and communication

  • Coordinating Diaspora Programme/DiPS communication channels, including via website and social media updates, in close collaboration with the DiPS student assistant;
  • Acting as point-of-entry to all external stakeholders contacting the Diaspora Programme/DiPS;

Additional support

  • Preparing internal DiPS budget follow-ups on a regular basis; and
  • Providing ad-hoc support to the Civil Society Engagement Unit.

Roles and responsibilities may be adjusted according to the candidate profile and pending other unit requirements.

About you

To be successful in this role, we expect you to thrive with many on-going priorities, be well-organized and solutions-oriented, good at targeting your communication to a diverse group of stakeholders, and be motivated by supporting small-scale organizations to succeed with their ambitions.

The successful candidate should have the following competencies and education:

  • Advanced degree in migration, development, or other relevant studies. Relevant work experiences may be considered in lieu of a Master’s degree
  • At least one to two years of relevant experience
  • Experience with project cycle management and administrative grant management – and preferably with handling a portfolio of projects where continuously keeping track and following up is crucial
  • Experience with civil society outreach and communications – preferably across a variety of platforms
  • Experience working with volunteers or supporting small-scale, grassroots organizations
  • Experience with facilitating participatory seminars and workshops
  • Experience with financial management, Excel and a flair for numbers
  • Practical experience with planning, developing and facilitating application procedures and compliance
  • Experience with grant databases, spreadsheets and illustration software is an advantage
  • An advanced level of English
  • Knowledge of Danish
  • Knowledge of Dari, Pashtu or Somali/Afghanistan and/or Somalia is an advantage

We offer

Duration of contract: Permanent, subject to the availability of funding

Travel: Occasional travel to Afghanistan and Somalia and in Denmark is expected

Working hours: It is expected that the candidate would be available for occasional meetings and trainings in the evening (once or twice per month) and weekend (once every other month)

Salary and conditions: In accordance with DRC’s agreement with the AC-organization

Workplace: DRC HQ, Borgergade 10, Copenhagen, Denmark

Start date: As soon as possible

We would expect that the candidate would have the right to work in Denmark through nationality or work visa.
