We are seeking a new staff scientist who is enthusiastic about and skilled in Magnetic Resonance imaging (MRI) methodology and image analysis. In 2024, the Preclinical Imaging Core Facility at the Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Southern Denmark (SDU), will move into a new state-of-the-art location within the new animal facility at SDU in Odense. With this move, we are installing a new simultaneous preclinical PET and 7-tesla MRI system.
The position is expected to start on April 1st, 2024, or as soon as possible thereafter. The position is for 2 years, with the possibility of extension.
Your job will be to assist in the establishment of the system, including methodology for advanced MR imaging, MR spectroscopy, functional MRI, diffusion tensor imaging, and angiography. As well as MR image analysis, teaching of users, and collaborations with other research groups, both at SDU and externally.
The ideal candidate is a person with an interest in research who understands the advantages and challenges of high-field MR, and has experience with imaging of small animals and image analysis. You may have a Ph.D. degree and want to develop your skills and future research profile within simultaneous PET/MR imaging.
You will be part of the Preclinical Imaging Core Facility and the Palner Lab, both situated at the University of Southern Denmark, as part of the Research Unit of Clinical Physiology and Nuclear Medicine. Besides the new PET and high-field MR, we also have access to a SPECT/PET/CT system, in vivo fluorescence imaging, well equibed facilities for behavioral assessment in rats, including operant behavior, fear conditioning, startle response, different mazes, high-speed cameras, fiber photometry, and optogenetics. Close by, we have core facilities for flow cytometry and microscopy.
You will be collaborating closely with Radiographer Christina Baun, who researches breast and prostate cancer models and preclinical imaging methods, and Associate Professor Mikael Palner and his team, who research functional imaging of the brain, psychiatric disorders, and pharmacological treatments.
We look forward to collaborating with you to truly combine the advances of the different imaging modalities to support each other better. Our aim is to build research tools for translation into clinical work and use at the simultaneous clinical PET/MR at the Research Unit of Clinical Physiology and Nuclear Medicine. Together, we will form a team of experts in preclinical in vivo imaging.
