Taastrup

for CBTC system in the Future S-bane programme

Would you like to be part of the team responsible for one of the largest and most complex transformation projects in Denmark? Then you may be our new colleague!

An important role in a complex project
DSB is currently investing massively in projects aiming at securing that Danish citizen also in the future have a sustainable and efficient alternative to cars, busses, and airplanes. This also goes for the S-train network. Over the coming 15 years the S-bane will be changed from a traditional S-train network to a fully automated driverless S-train network: “Fremtidens S-bane”.

This change must support growth and mobility in Greater Copenhagen and contribute to a sustainable city environment and make room for more passengers, hence reducing congestion in Greater Copenhagen. By today’s standards the new S-train network will be the world’s largest and fastest driverless mass-transit system.

“Fremtidens S-bane” is governed as a programme. The programme includes the acquisition of the driverless S-train network including the rolling stock and the necessary supporting systems, which should be in place to operate a fully automated network. Moreover, it is part of the programme to secure, that DSB is ready to receive and operate a driverless S-train network, including the necessary capabilities within IT, traffic control etc. that DSB must possess to realize the benefits derived from the acquisition.

Finally, it is part of the programme, that DSB takes over tasks from Banedanmark related to the management of infrastructure on the S-train network. These tasks include among other things that DSB will take over the responsibility for further developments, upgrades, and operation of the CBTC-system.

These DSB CBTC-tasks for the position can be grouped as follows:

  • Upgrade of CBTC to support fully automated operation (so called GoA4): This work is already ongoing in collaboration between DSB, Banedanmark and Siemens. The role will have management responsibility over the DSB-internal CBTC Project delivery activities (including coordination with the Fremtidens S-Bane programme) and resources, and the coordination between DSB, Banedanmark and Siemens (supplier).
  • Take over of sector responsibility for operating the CBTC-system: In January 2027 (planned) DSB will take over full responsibility for the operation of the CBTC system, at first in GoA2 (current mode of operation) and following the upgrade and progressive rollout, in GoA4 mode.
  • Take over of Banedanmark CBTC employees: As key part of Sector responsibility take over, employees working today in Banedanmark with the CBTC Project delivery, Operations and Maintenance will be transferred to DSB. It is very important this transfer is well prepared so that the scarce CBTC competences are not lost during this process and so that the employees feel they are well considered.

DSB needs an experienced project lead to lead the work from DSB’s side related to the GoA4 upgrade. The project lead will have a project team assigned with the relevant CBTC competences. The project lead will act as a link towards Banedanmark in relation to the CBTC-tasks for which DSB is responsible, and the project lead will enable that employees transferring from Banedanmark to DSB are integrated in Fremtidens S-bane and in DSB appropriately.

The project lead must work closely with Banedanmark, with the supplier of the CBTC-system (Siemens) and with colleagues in “Fremtidens S-bane”. The project lead will be part of the “Transformation team” in Fremtidens S-bane. This team is responsible for tasks related to preparing DSB for receiving the fully automated system (transition) as well as for tasks related to changing the existing infrastructure to be compatible with the new driverless S-train system including CBTC and tasks transferred from Banedanmark to DSB. The project lead will report to the leader of the Transformation team (the Transformation manager).

Applicants are expected to have the following experiences and skills to take the position:

  • Comprehensive experience with managing technical development projects
  • Skills to establish a well-functioning partnership with other authorities and external suppliers
  • Skills to work across various professions
  • Skills to navigate in an international environment
