DanChurchAid (DCA) invites applications for a Psychosocial Support Project Coordinator for the Libya programme. This is a non-family position based in Tunis and Libya respectively.
The DCA Libya programme is a growing programme with wide-ranging activities including psychosocial support (PSS), the clearance of explosive hazards, survey, risk education and NFI distribution. The programme has an administrative office in Tunis as well as offices across Libya from where projects are implemented.
The overall purpose of the job as PSS coordinator for Libya is to build upon a previous PSS project and implement the Psychosocial Support element of DCA’s EU project in Libya. Specifically, to train a Civil Society Organization in basic principles of PSS, support and mentor them in conducting a needs assessment, and assisting them in the design and implementation of PSS activities over a 12-month period. The project’s overall purpose is to enforce and support Libya’s quest for stability and peace through building safer communities. The PSS activities conducted are at the lower end of the PSS intervention pyramid and activities are predominantly with children, and often delivered via a remote management model.
In this challenging environment, flexibility and adaptability are essential and the PSS Project Coordinator will need to be a calm team-player, who has previous experience from a similar project.

Key responsibilities of the Psychosocial Support Project Coordinator include:
- Training the CSO partner in PSS
- Supporting Libyan CSO partner(s) in conducting a needs assessment
- Assisting CSO partners in the design of activity plans and budgets
- Supporting CSO partners in delivering PSS activities
- Monitoring activities of the CSO partners and reporting monthly
- Gathering results, beneficiary stories and information on the project and supporting the Head of Humanitarian Programmes and Programme Officer in report writing and drafting texts for external use
- Contributing to new concept notes and proposals, where required and requested by the CD
- Maintaining records of all psychosocial support activities
- Support in the development of the final EU report, drafting the narrative PSS part and results for the final donor report and other reports as requested, and analyse outputs and results for reports in general
- Participate in meetings, networks, seminars and conferences where relevant and beneficial to DCA programme as directed by the Country Director or Head of Programmes.
Additional responsibilities include:
- Develop and maintain effective working relationship with other members of the programme to ensure maximum impact for beneficiary communities
- Contribute to a culture of excellence, collaboration, continuous improvement and performance optimization across all projects
- Be a role model for diversity and inclusion, as well as a positive role model for a collective and collaborative team spirit.
We are looking for the following qualifications and experience:
- You will need a minimum of 3 years’ experience of implementing PSS for an INGO
- Experience of training and mentoring national civil society organizations/partners
- Experience of working in a remote management model
Preferably you will have experience of working in a hostile environment - You will need to have a flexible approach, with the ability to adapt to rapidly changing situations and alter plans as necessary
- You will need to be used to living and working in an environment where there are often restrictions on movement and limited opportunities for external leisure and activities
- You will need exceptional cultural sensitivity and a highly developed skills in dealing with males and females in a conservative society
- Work well within a team as well as independently
- Must have good spoken and written English language. Arabic is an advantage.
- Working experience in Middle East or North Africa is an advantage
- High level of autonomy and willingness to spend time in field locations
