Position Summary:

This role is responsible for GCMS products within EMEA for the Environmental, Food Safety and Industrial (EFS-Industrial) markets. The role is focussed on providing support across EMEA, as needed. This role is expected to be an application- and workflow-focused expert working primarily ‘hands-on’ to support KOLs, early adopters and collaboration projects. This role is expected to participate in a matrix team which together will focus with the CMD portfolio on supporting commercial growth in the EFS-Industrial markets. Participation is expected in customer/prospect visits together with sales colleagues, product demonstrations, sales calls, technical advice and training to sales colleagues, application development, scientific events, customer support and field marketing within EMEA for markets mentioned. This role encompasses both the pre-sales process and post-sales support, with focus on pre-sales support. This role is expected to be a GCMS product-focused expert working both ‘hands-on’ in a Thermo Fisher Scientific lab or at a customer site as well as working with our factory and marketing teams to develop and implement programs, promotions and new product introductions.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for active contribution to the European and EMEA achievement of GCMS identified goals and financial targets, with immediate participation to the achievement of the sales support team goals
  • Focus on supporting the introduction of new applications, workflows and products into the GCMS EFS-Industrial markets by:
    • Participating in pre-launch factory/vertical-organised internal trainings on new workflows and products, and driving further knowledge and skills by supporting regional internal trainings of sales support colleagues and product demonstrations, to build regional capabilities
    • Providing on-site support of KOLs, early adopters and collaborations, where successful implementation of novel application methodologies, workflows and products generates positive VOC for market adoption
    • Assisting the generation of sales collateral through support of KOLs, launch and demonstration assistance

  • Acting as sales support expert and communication bridge between the Vertical Marketing Teams and the regional commercial and sales support teams by:
    • Supporting scientific meetings and events with oral and poster presentations
    • Implementing workshops, seminars and deminars in close partnership with commercial and marketing colleagues to augment and advance projects in the sales funnel
    • Pre-sales visits to support commercial projects
    • Assist through the line manager and network leader with the internal sharing of information and best practices across the EMEA sales support teams, bring feedback from EMEA to internal stakeholders

  • Since business needs are constantly evolving, must be responsive to, plan for and embrace change
  • Personally responsible for identifying training needs and ensuring that professional capabilities and competencies meet the needs and requirements of the sales support team for the relevant product lines and markets
  • Make adequate use of all implemented tools (e.g. SalesForce.com, AppsLab, quarterly personal KPI targets…) tracking all activities to develop comprehensive knowledge of prospects and customers and Thermo Fisher Scientific’s interactions with them
  • Additionally, assist the general sales support EMEA efforts by:
    • Working closely with regional teams to ensure core demonstrations and key projects are supported
    • Ensuring post-sales support to key sites is provided
    • Assisting service colleagues to address application issues within escalations
    • Assist the review of customer training content provided co-operatively with other sources: marketing teams, factory, sales and service. These training materials will focus on recently introduced products


Minimum Requirements/Qualifications

  • Degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry or similar. Ph.D. and PostDoc experience from relevant technology and market required. Experience from vendor environment a bonus
  • Excellent knowledge of market trends and drivers, of KOLs, of significant competitors and their strategies
  • Ability to understand and respond to customer needs, to translate their needs into relevant pre-and post-sales deliverables
  • Several years of hands-on GCMS experience in the market
  • Solid knowledge in EFS-Industrial focused applications and workflows
  • Excellent inter-personal skills and proven capabilities of team work, of work integrating multiple stakeholders
  • Evidence of capabilities to mentor younger colleagues, to share knowledge and experience
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, be capable of scientific persuasion
  • Demonstrated capability to learn from both successes and failures
  • Good interpersonal and self-organizational skills
  • Driving license
  • Willingness to travel extensively within EMEA
  • Additional language skills are a positive asset
