We are looking for a Data Scientist to join us on our journey to explore and grow data analytic capabilities to protect patient safety. We are looking for someone who is motivated by the opportunity to be a key part of building a new data science team and is interested in developing domain expertise within the rapidly evolving area of drug safety data (pharmacovigilance) analytics. To thrive in this role, you should be curiosity driven, and have a passion for using mathematics and new technologies to transform large complex data into insights and a desire to deliver outcomes that have real impact for patients. Because patient safety is a highly regulated area, it is also important that you recognise the need for documentation and a quality mindset.

About the department

Safety Data Analytics is a newly established role within Global Safety. You will become part of a small and highly specialised unit comprised of 2 safety data scientist and two student workers. The unit is imbedded in the Safety Surveillance area to maximise domain expertise (end-to-end understanding pharmacovigilance regulations, processes, methodologies, and data sources) and alignment of business priorities. The Safety Data Analytics unit will also be an integral part of the wider Novo Nordisk Data Science organisation that is spread across different functions.

Safety Surveillance is a global organisation including more than 80 people with a medical/life science background who monitor the safety of all Novo Nordisk’s products (marketed and under development) to detect and evaluate signals of safety concern, and where necessary, take necessary actions to minimise risks to for patients.

The position
This is a newly established position, and as such you will be involved in formulating the responsibilities, tasks and goals for the position. You will play an important role in establishing Safety Data Analytics in Safety Surveillance, typically working in cross-disciplinary teams with subject matter experts, data analysts, and biostatisticians to explore, develop and deploy analytical solutions and data projects. You will apply your knowledge and experience to derive data driven insights to support business decisions concerning patient safety. You will examine large, diverse and complex data sets containing health care data (e.g. electronic health records, claims databases, side-effects, and digital data) to uncover hidden patterns, unknown correlations, trends, and other useful information that will be used to protect and improve patient safety. Your tasks will include building dashboards, text mining, data mining, and advanced analytics such as predictive models and machine learning. Your responsibilities will include planning and co-ordinating projects, programming and performing exploratory analyses, testing and documentation.

In this position, you will have the opportunity to interact and learn from other areas, develop your domain expertise and data science skills in a friendly, international, workplace.

Qualifications
You have a MSc and preferably also a PhD in data science, computer science, statistics, bioinformatics etc or equivalent work experience. We are looking for someone with strong analytical and programming skills (strong in Python and/or R, and experience with SQL (and SAS)), a proven ability to deliver technical projects, and experience with text mining and machine learning. Experience with creating dashboards (using R/Shiny or other software), project coordination and technical writing is preferred.

To succeed in this role, you will need to be driven by curiosity and be interested in developing domain expertise and an end-to-end understanding of pharmacovigilance processes. Since we focus on reaching our goals through a collaborative effort, it is essential that you enjoy working in a cross-disciplinary setting with both technical peers and subject matter experts. Finally, it is important that you are comfortable communicating in English, both orally and in writing.
