About the department
The job is placed in CMC API Development, R&D, located in Bagsværd. Our main responsibility is to develop manufacturing processes for new proteins and peptides in close collaboration with the research and manufacturing units (clinical and market). In CMC API Development we are increasing our focus on improving emerging processes by application of flow sheet models (Digital Twins). The Digital Twin combines a model for a facility with a process model and enables us to optimize for different objectives throughout the project lifecycle, including capacity, facility fit, and process economy. The Digital Twin is based on a dynamic mass balance for the entire system and production scenarios are simulated by solving the system of equations using Discrete Event Simulation. For selected process steps mechanistic models are included to increase model fidelity. Our aim for the future is to enable more qualified and timely decisions on process design such as batch vs continuous operation, solvent prep strategy, and recycle options.
You will be part of a small team, CMC Bioprocess Improvement-Optimization (CMC BIO), which is dedicated to model based process design, in close collaboration with Upstream & Downstream departments. Similar teams are found in our Production and Pilot areas as part of a growing modelling network.
The job
As part of CMC BIO you will:
- design and optimize emerging processes in collaboration with project stake holders
- develop and improve a methodology for process design
- build and maintain facility models in collaboration with Production and Pilot areas
- establish the Digital Twin concept as a tool for designing new facilities
This job gives you a great opportunity to play a part in shaping the future of bioprocessing in close collaboration with development, production, and research teams in Novo Nordisk.
Qualifications
You have a PhD in chemical engineering with focus on Process Systems Engineering, design and optimization. Good programming skills and a talent for handling software and data. Experience within (bio)chemical processes and Discrete Event Simulation.
You are able to:
- develop simulation models from high level descriptions of entire facilities to detailed analysis of utility/solvent systems
- use tools like INOSIM, SuperPro, PRO/II, GAMS and program in VBA, MatLab, Python, C++
- apply simplified and complex models in the right proportions to balance speed and accuracy
- capture the essence of an assignment and break it down into manageable pieces
- present complex results in a clear way and explain the purpose to get everyone onboard
