You will be joining the StarConnect Voyage team and playing a key role in building the voyage planning tools of the future for Maersks fleet of container vessels. Our focus is on making a great and easy-to-use product that combines the know how and experience of the crew with modern and fully data driven modeling and routing that enables us to provide highly optimized routes that takes as many factors into account as possible (such as weather, vessel details, etc). This both provides us with a competitive advantage as well as help us on our extremely ambitious journey of being carbon neutral by 2050.
Our tech stack described with keywords include: Go, Postgres, Javascript (WebComponents/LitElement), Argo, git, Terraform, Azure Event Hubs, Azure Services Bus, Azure Block Storage, docker, Kubernetes, bash, Windows Server, Azure DevOps pipelines, PowerShell.
This is one of the few opportunities out there where your direct contribution allow you to make a very real difference for the climate!
• Designing, implementing, deploying, and maintenance of all parts of the voyage solution (running both on vessels directly and in the Azure cloud).
• Encouraging and advising on good practice in building reliable, scalable applications.
• Close Collaboration with the other teams in the StarConnect product suite ensuring best practices and knowledge sharing across the product.
• Timely and responsible delivery of solid, dependable products with potential for high impact on the corporate business.
Minimal qualifications:
• At least 5+ years of experience with development of successful products in the industry.
• Masters Degree in Compter Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent.
• Expertise in at least one compiled programming language (Go, C/C++, rust, Java, Scala, C#, haskell, etc) and its development ecosystem (compilers, build tools, testing, logging, debugging, monitoring tools, libraries, etc).
• Expertise in at least one scripting programming language (python, perl, ruby, lua) and its development ecosystem (as above), with focus on libraries for data science, statistics, machine learning, etc.
• Expertise in portable POSIX shell scripting (bash, GNU coreutils).
• Good familiarity with DBMS-related development: proficiency with SQL, experience working with DBAs.
• Good familiarity with web server applications, web protocols, authentication, authorisation.
• Experience with designing microservice architectures, APIs (REST, other), scaling web sites, performance tuning.
• Experience with at least one of the major cloud providers (Azure, AWS, GC)
• Familiarity with front end work (Javascript) and building customer-facing UIs (not a frontend developer role).
• Familiarity with containerization (docker/Kubernetes)
Desirable qualifications:
• Experience with designing, building, monitoring cloud-based architectures and deployment to Azure.
• Experience with backend development in Go.
• Experience with frontend development in JavaScript preferably also with WebComponents and LitElement.
• Proven algorithmic problem solving skills.
• Exposure to data science or analytics work, ideally in a mixed-competence team, familiarity with a data science-related programming environment (R, scipy, matlab, mathematica).
• Experience in building and monitoring distributed systems with shared memory and/or message passing concurrency.
• Experience with deploying and operating applications with Kubernetes.
• Good social skills, ability to successfully collaborate with people of different personalities and ways of working.
