Maersk Line is looking for a software engineer to help develop IT tools to support the design of Maersk Line’s vessel network. Maersk Line is bringing mathematical optimisation into our core operations to make better and faster decisions.
As a software engineer in the network strategy team, you will be working together with peers, mathematical optimisation specialists, business specialists and vendors to develop innovative world class IT tools for optimising the world’s largest container vessel network.
We offer a position in the Network Strategy team.
The Network Strategy team is responsible for medium- and long-run strategic planning on Maersk’s ocean transportation network, optimizing it to create value for our customers and achieve corporate objectives.
You will be working in an international environment in a key function in Maersk Line’s head quarter in Copenhagen where you will be involved in setting the direction for how to outperform competition.

As software engineer in the network strategy team you will be responsible for developing tools in collaboration with Maersk Line’s business to support decision making in the design of our network and ocean products
You will collect and analyse business requirements, envision solutions, develop and test prototypes and production applications.
You will have the opportunity to cooperate with subject matter experts from the business side to identify how to create additional value by developing our tools to expand the support of the business.
You will report to the software lead of the network strategy team and be involved in setting the vision for how to use software to optimise Maersk Line’s business.
The ideal candidate has a technical background with a master’s or PhD degree in engineering, mathematics, or computer science with specialisation in software development and algorithms.
It is an advantage if you have previously worked within the field of mathematical optimisation, but not a pre-requisite. You have at least 2 years of professional experience with software development preferably algorithms and optimisation IT tools. You are able to document business requirements and translate it into good software design and high performing implementations. You have an analytical mindset and knowledge of statistical analysis. You have good communication and interpersonal skills enabling you to work in a team and with external stakeholders. Proficiency in both written and oral English is a must.
You have extensive experience with:
• Software development in C++, Python
• Development tools, debugging tools, test tools, version control tools.
• Data management in databases, preferably MS SQL Server.
The ideal candidate also has experience with some or all of the following technologies:
• Operations research theory and practice.
• Graph algorithms, linear programming, and advanced data structures.
• Machine learning
