We are looking for a full stack developer to join us in the Translational Disease Systems Biology group at The Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Protein Research (CPR – www.cpr.ku.dk).
CPR comprises a wide range of expertise and resources including proteomics, protein production, general characterization of disease mechanisms, and bioinformatics. The Programme for Disease Systems Biology covers systems level aspects of biology and medicine, including the integration of molecular-level data and healthcare data, for example EHR data including laboratory test data and biomedical texts. You will be joining the Translational Disease Systems Biology group, which is one of three groups in the Programme for Disease Systems Biology at CPR. The group (www.cpr.ku.dk/research/disease-systems-biology/brunak/) led by Professor Søren Brunak focuses on establishing early competitive advantage in disease-relevant computational analysis across the general areas of bioinformatics, systems biology and medical informatics. We are a diverse and highly multidisciplinary group, which is dynamic and ambitious with many renowned scientific collaborations both nationally and internationally.
Responsibilities and tasks
We are looking for a full-stack developer with a strong focus on the frontend. You will be building interfaces to extract information from existing data sources as well as participate in designing and implementing new systems. Understanding of biology is not a requirement, but candidates familiar with it will have an opportunity to contribute to research across the field of Life Sciences.
Primary areas of responsibility
As a full-stack developer, you will be building systems for exploring, visualising and interacting with data coming from our internal systems and researchers. Your responsibilities will relate mostly to the frontend side with the share of backend tasks to be adjusted depending on your interests and abilities. Your main tasks would include:

The research environment at CPR is ambitious and international, with approx. 30 different nationalities currently represented. The Center comprises modern laboratories, supercomputer resources and state-of-the-art facilities within protein science. Seminars with high-profile international speakers and regular internal research seminars are organized at the Center. The selected candidate should expect some travel activity.

Salary and terms of employment

- Developing new features and interfaces while maintaining clean and coherent codebase
- Creating and maintaining tests
- Optimising queries and fine-tuning Elastic
- Collaborating with the project partners outside of the team if needed
- Maintaining user-facing documentation of the APIs and description of the system logic
- Participating in regular meetings where the team members altogether discuss the progress and the next steps
Qualifications
The competences that will be required:
- Experience with Angular, AngularJS or another modern JavaScript framework
- Experience with building and using REST APIs
- Experience with Python language
- Experience with automated testing of both frontend and backend
- Knowledge of basic concepts of relational databases
- Git version control
Desirable:
- Implementing web interfaces in collaboration with UI/UX designers
- Python web frameworks (Django, Flask)
- Managing CentOS servers
- Docker, provisioning and orchestration tools (Kubernetes, Ansible etc.)
- Agile development (Scrum etc)
