Lead DevOps/Reliability Engineer to Trading & Investments, Nordea Asset Management, Copenhagen
Would you like to be the lead engineer in our newly established Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) team within the Trading & Investments BizDevOps value chain?

At Nordea, we see that the world is changing fast – and we want to be one step ahead of the curve. That’s why we’re deeply committed to providing the financial solutions of tomorrow to our customers. We’re creating an agile environment where we experiment and grow together – and we need your ideas and unique background. With us, you’ll be in good company with a chance to make your mark on something bigger.

In relation to our commitment, you will take the engineering lead role in our future software delivery and reliability capabilities in Asset Management. You must strike the right balance between feature velocity and service availability. Additionally, you will have co-ownership of our ambitious targets within each delivery and SRE sub-discipline.

About this opportunity

Over the recent years, changes in the market structure, in combination with increased assets under management, has led to a higher need for in-house development and greater sophistication of the technology platforms in Nordea Asset Management.

The application stack today ranges from larger vendor applications such as trading, information and execution systems, to in-house built complements to those, plus big data and analytics environments. These tools and applications are now an intrinsic part of the investment process. However, the recent evolution also comes with challenges on managing the increasing complexity of the application landscape.

Especially, in the Trading and Investments domain there is an inherent need for agility and service reliability. To effectively augment and develop the business it is a prerequisite for its enabling staff in the value chain to have domain understanding in combination with deep technical skills. This is where you come in.

Your focus areas will be the following:

  • High performing CI/CD / DevOps toolchain, monitoring capabilities and environment configuration automation (auto-scaling, performance tuning, containers, cloud etc.)
  • Joint production responsibility within the current landscape of proprietary and vendor Trading and Investment applications
  • Champion the release, rollback and recovery disciplines through concepts like SLOs & error budgets, orchestration/playbooks, self-healing and post-mortems
  • Execute on best practice implementations of non-functional software requirements and reliability patterns together with sister software engineering teams
  • Script and automate toil heavy processes to cater for valuable development projects instead
  • Auxiliary software development on in-house components and shared services
  • 2,5 level technical troubleshooting - with ultimate ownership still residing with the original development team
  • Ultimately, the work we do should have profound impact on the value stream and the business

Who you are

We are therefore looking for a person to technically lead the Trading & Investments Site Reliability Engineering efforts. You understand the difference between serving and empowering your stakeholders to accelerate our business goals.

You are an SRE/DevOps champion, who enjoys working in a dynamic and ambitious environment. Our goal is not to list a full set of tools and technologies that we expect you to master, as our journey is dictated by principles. Hence, it becomes tool and technology agnostic.

We are instead looking for the right mindset. Where can we optimize for value and where can we solve platform and operational problems with code? How do we scale the capabilities we offer while still being able to deliver on challenges that are complex enough to require human intervention?

You must possess great interpersonal skills, act truly proactively and have a genuine interest in improving systems, platforms and tooling.

The experience and competence you bring could be not far from below:

  • A bachelor’s degree or higher in computer science, engineering or other relevant background
  • Expert experience in full CI/CD / DevOps toolchains and the supporting telemetry
  • High proficiency in the following:
    • Windows and Linux sysadmin skills
    • OS-level virtualization and orchestration, e.g. Docker and Kubernetes
    • one or more programming languages, e.g. Java or C#
    • one or more scripting languages, e.g. Python, Bash or PowerShell
    • Monitoring, logging & visualization tools, e.g. Prometheus, Fluent-d/Bit, InfluxData, Grafana or Elastic stack
    • Automation, infra as code, playbooks, e.g. Ansible and Terraform

  • Understanding and basic debugging skills on network routing & load balancing concepts and relational & non-relational databases
  • Clear interest in the business - you will be in a Front Office value chain
  • Fluent in English, spoken and written

Next steps

If you believe you are the right candidate, please contact Head of Investments SRE, Martin Pagh-Roelsgaard, for an informal talk or apply for the position. Looking forward to our journey and business adventures together.

Please submit your application no later than 19 April 2020.

At Nordea, we know that an inclusive workplace is a sustainable workplace. We deeply believe that our diverse backgrounds, experiences, characteristics and traits make us better at serving customers and communities. So please come as you are.
