Embedded Software Architect

Oticon Medical is seeking a highly skilled Embedded Software Architect to lead the design and development of the embedded software architecture for our next-generation bone conduction hearing aids (BAHS).

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in embedded systems, Bluetooth Low Energy (LE) technology, and a good understanding of medical device software and cybersecurity requirements.

Newly created position

You will join a small and highly skilled team, working towards a new generation of bone conduction hearing aids independent from the technology previously used. The eSW Architect role is a new addition to the team, intended to drive the architectural development of our new platform.

The architecture must support the use-cases of today as well as being prepared for the ambitions of our roadmap. Furthermore, it must be designed to comply with regulatory requirements for both medical device software and cybersecurity.

Your main responsibilities will be to:

  • Define and develop the embedded software architecture for next generation bone conduction hearing aids.
  • Ensure Bluetooth LE compatibility and seamless integration with other device components (data and audio).
  • Implement and manage firmware-over-the-air (FOTA) upgrade capabilities.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive architectural documentation, including design specifications, technical requirements, and compliance reports.
  • Ensure compliance with medical device software standards (e.g., IEC 62304) and cybersecurity requirements.
  • Conduct risk assessments and implement robust security measures to protect patient data and device integrity.
  • Implement robust testing and validation processes to ensure the software meets all functional and regulatory requirements.
  • Stay updated with the latest industry trends and advancements in embedded systems and medical device software.

Technical background

You have a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, combined with experience in embedded software development. Ideally, you have some years of work experience working as an eSW Architect in the audio or medical device industry.

You are proficient in programming languages such as C/C++ or similar and have experience with real-time operating systems (RTOS) and embedded development tools. Experience with Bluetooth LE technology and its applications in embedded systems is an add on.

As a person you take initiative and lead projects forward. You often find creative solutions to problems, and you are resilient in the face of issues and setbacks. You enjoy teamwork and bring people along with your positive way of interacting with others and your good communication skills.
