Are you looking for an opportunity to apply your programming and data management skills to increase the understanding of and optimise future treatment of obesity? Then this may be your opportunity to kickstart an exciting career in a global organisation as our new Postdoc, supporting the Novo Nordisk involvement in this IMI project.

The Innovative Medicines Initiative (IMI) is the world's biggest public-private partnership in the life sciences (www.imi.europa.eu). It is a partnership between the European Commission and the European pharmaceutical industry. The project on optimising the future treatment of obesity is called SOPHIA and a collaboration between 30+ different international partners from academia and industry.

About the department

You will join the department of Data Analytics, which is a part of Data Science in Global Development and located in Søborg, Denmark. The department was established in 2017 with a focus on Real World Data and advanced analytics. In Data Analytics, we analyse many different data sources to generate evidence to support clinical drug development projects and launched products. You will be joining a team of highly professional, engaged and motivated data scientists.

In Global Development at Novo Nordisk, we are responsible for managing clinical drug development worldwide from early development phases to product launch. We provide medical and scientific documentation for clinical submissions and authorities while ensuring that the process lives up to global standards, regulations and business ethics.

The position

As a Data Science Postdoc, you will contribute your software engineering and data management skills to create evidence from clinical trials and observational data sources for optimised future treatment of obesity. You will also support pharmacologists by applying machine learning methods to identify predictors of response to obesity treatments. You will be working in a team of data scientists, pharmacologists and together with stakeholders from across Novo Nordisk, other pharmaceutical companies, research labs and academic partners of the SOPHIA network. The collaboration will be across Novo Nordisk sites and will also require some travel and meetings in other European countries. The position is for a duration of 2 years with a possibility of extension.

Furthermore, a part of the job will be to continuously update your knowledge of analytical methodologies and to further develop and implement these methods into your daily work. Moreover, you are responsible for communicating your results and findings in a clear and convincing way both orally and written, in various types of publications.

Qualifications

You have a PhD degree in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Physics, Mathematics, Engineering or equivalent. In addition, you have some experience from the pharmaceutical, medical or biological area, with managing, analysing, documenting and programming comprehensive data.

You should have experience transforming data by writing advanced, well-performing and maintainable code in either SQL, R or Python. You know how to get good performance from relational databases.

Some but not extensive experience with Linux systems administration is necessary.

You either have experience with machine learning methods or curious to learn them.

It is also an advantage if you have experience with database normalisation, git, data visualization and reporting tools (e.g., Shiny), project coordination or technical writing. A preferred candidate would have a solid understanding of machine learning models and libraries (e.g., TensorFlow).

As your job will include collaborating with several partner institutes, experience with cloud computing and distributed or federated data analysis is desired but not required. Experience with ETL tools and common data models such as CDISC, ADAM or OMOP is also an advantage.

We emphasise accountability and reaching goals through a collaborative effort, thus it is essential that you can use your good interpersonal and communication skills to achieve results together with others. You enjoy responsibility and complete your assignments proactively and within timelines. Finally, you can communicate fluently in English, both in speech and writing.

At Novo Nordisk, your skills, dedication and ambition help us change lives for the better. In exchange, we offer you an opportunity to work with extraordinary talent and to benefit from a range of possibilities for professional and personal development.
