Centre for Industrial Software (CIS), part of the Maersk Mc-Kinney Moller Institute, University of Southern Denmark, located in Sønderborg, invites applications for an engineering position to support the buildup of the Centre and supporting laboratories. The centre is a newly started center that focuses on software technological research and education in close cooperation with companies to utilize the potential in digitalization. It is expected that the centre will experience a significant growth over the next five years.

SDU's beautiful campus in Sønderborg is located in the inspiring building of Alsion, which is a center for science, culture and learning in the heart of Sønderborg and perched on the strait of water separating the island of Als from the mainland. The university has very close relations to industries in Sønderborg, Southern Denmark and Northern Germany.

The centre is involved in a variety of research and collaboration projects nationally and internationally. The centre has a strong collaboration with industry to solve challenging research problems from real applications, and to participate in implementing the achieved results into real solutions with end users. The work in the centre is structured around a number of laboratories: Data and Intelligence lab, Cyber-Safe lab, Software-Driven Machines lab, Coding and Software Engineering lab, Computer Human Interaction lab. The last two labs are shared with the SDU Software Engineering section in Odense which is under same leadership.

The work and responsibilities for the applicant will be within the areas of:

  • Developing and maintaining infrastructures to support the laboratories in close collaboration with the associated researchers.
  • Facilitating and participation in business development in collaboration with local industry and municipality
  • Software development and other support of research projects
  • Software development in relation to advanced cyber-physical systems and automation solutions, e.g. in the areas of industrial and manufacturing systems
  • Support for research and educational activities

The applicant we are looking for should have one or more of the following competencies:

  • Experience with collaboration projects that involve industry and academia
  • Domain knowledge in the field of industrial systems.
  • Experience with infrastructures to support software development (e.g. Git, Docker, Kubernetes, Cloud infrastructures).
  • Experience with implementing software solutions in a variety of programming languages.
  • Experience with PLC programming or programming of embedded systems.
  • Experience with software development processes and methods.
  • Experience with the development of middleware, services, micro services, and databases.

It is expected that the candidate has documented qualifications related to the position, for example, shown by a degree in the field of software engineering, robotics, computer engineering, computer science or similar or previous related job positions.

It's a permanent position with starting date April 1, 2024 or as soon as possible.

Employment shall take place in accordance with the framework agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations).
