Capia AS, Tromsø, Norway, is looking for an Engineer for processing, analyzing and visualizing point cloud data.
Capia is a data analytics company located in Tromsø. We are working on challenging tasks, and are cooperating closely with very knowledgeable researchers and companies.
We produce interactive applications and reports, which our end users use to further their knowledge and reach informed decisions.
Job description
We are looking for a new colleague who will help us build a system for collecting, organizing and processing survey data from LiDAR scans. The survey data is collected from sensors in motion, and needs calibration and resulting point clouds need georeferencing, and possibly meshing.
The point cloud data will also need to be classified by features and surfaces. Some experience in machine learning with training networks or build upon pretrained networks is wanted. This might be assisted by other persons.
The LiDAR scans are also accompanied by color photographs, so automated colorizing of point clouds or texture mapping meshes is also something we want to look into.
For visualizations and end user applications, we usually build them as web apps, for ease of reach. We have done some trials with streaming point cloud data through octree LOD data structures to webgl visualizations. Some experience from working with 3D engines, either web-based or desktop, such as three.js and UnrealEngine, might come in handy.
We are looking into the possibility of hiring a couple of PhD positions around this. Some work in assisting these PhDs would also be needed.

Skills, Experience And Qualifications
- Good knowledge in geomatics, computer science, mathematics and statistics.
- Programming skills and version control and deployments through git and docker.
- Usage of databases, GIS tools and image processing.
- Good communicator in your field of expertise, capable of teaching others.
