Opportunity
I want you to join my Supply Chain Insights and Trends Lab. I understand that you are on a fast-track and learning a lot in your current role but consider what we have to offer. You will part of a start-up team at a truly global company undergoing an exciting corporate transformation.
If you relish a challenge, have strong learning agility, enjoy working with ambiguity, and have an appetite for generating analytic insights, this is the job for you. I am looking for someone special like you to join my team to fill the position of a Supply Chain Insights and Trends Researcher.
We offer
Keep reading—it gets better. You will be part of a growing team with the opportunity to develop and shape your role and impact. It will provide the opportunity to take a big-picture, strategic perspective on logistics supply chains, business models, technological and customer trends. Your work will inform Maersk’s industry leading integrator strategy.
You will work in a high-profile environment. The practice is part of the Global Strategic Insights team led by our Chief Economist Graham Slack in the Corporate Strategy Department, reporting to the CEO of Maersk.
The practice will comprise 3 people initially, sitting within the Strategic Insights team totaling around 15 colleagues with a range of backgrounds and professional experience. It is an inter-disciplinary environment, where you work in an agile and flexible way to generate knowledge and insights for the organization.
Welcome to the Maersk family. We are a purpose-driven company with people that have a wide-range of skill sets and backgrounds. You will be involved in shaping and delivering perspectives, supply chain insights, and trends analysis. That will bring you a large network of counterparts and close collaboration with colleagues across the organization including in the commercial, strategy, M&A, growth, and logistics teams.
Key responsibilities
Got your attention, but thinking it’s too good to be true? Well, it will take someone special like you to fill the role, and an ambition to grow professionally and truly excel in a global company. You will have a strong appetite for the role and a fundamental skill set in logistics and supply chain research, curiosity, and a can-do attitude to be successful. We will support your growth in the role.
Your core purpose is to grow and deepen the work of the Supply Chain Insights and Trends Lab, generating insights on longer-term trends impacting the logistics landscape with a strong emphasis on drawing-out strategic implications (the so what) for the business and Maersk’s integrator strategy. Topics are broad ranging from geopolitical supply chain risks to consumer behavior and sustainability, reshoring and nearshoring, macro global trends, innovations and impacts, sector specific trends impacting retail, FMCG, Automotive, Lifestyle but all building a clear link to strategic logistics and supply chain management. Working closely with the Head of Supply Chain Insights and Trends Lab, Professor Omera Khan you will develop scenarios and threat and trend analysis, you will consider a system thinking and/or design thinking approach to curating insights and trends.
Not an ivory tower. We know that you enjoy pulling together a holistic picture grounded in research, data work, and triangulation. But we also know that you need to get out and about to discuss, test understanding, and gather knowledge. Fortunately, Maersk is a large organization with plenty of opportunity to interact and learn from colleagues from across the world and disciplines. Some of your core counterparts will be the product and vertical heads, the M&A team, and strategy leads who are at the forefront of building-out Maersk’s integrator strategy. But talking shop internally only gets you so far. You will also be engaging externally with think tanks and research houses to complement and challenge our internally generated perspectives. And of course, Maersk has a very large customer base that is hungry to discuss and share perspectives on these topics. You will be contributing thought-leadership to those conversations.
Who are we looking for
Because you can meet most of the following elements, or have outstanding skills in some of them paired with a strong learning agility, we will be having a conversation soon:
- Knowledge of supply chains and the logistics sector either from working in a logistics company, academic department, institute or center of excellence or being a knowledge expert/analyst at a consultancy or similar
- A strong grasp of relevant supply chain and logistics global trends and innovations, customer needs and consumer behavior, strategic risk/opportunity analysis drawing-on risk-management frameworks, and a passion for drawing-out the implications (the so what)
- Capable of building insights from data sources, estimation, triangulation techniques, and hypothesis testing
- Ability to structure complex questions and to work with ambiguous topics
- A knowledge network and understanding of the analytic tools and data sources needed to build strategic insights and conduct analysis relevant to logistics and supply chains.
- An appetite to establish strong working relationships across the organization and building external alliances.
- Excellent communication skills and an ability to present complexities in compelling and clear terms.
Since we are an international team, fluency in written and spoken English is a must.
As a performance-oriented company, we strive to always recruit the best person for the job – regardless of gender, age, nationality, sexual orientation or religious beliefs. We are proud of our diversity and see it as a genuine source of strength.
