Do you have a solid experience in leadership within financial management in large and complex projects or/and multi funding-oriented organizations without being afraid of diving into day-to-day operations when needed? Are you a wizard with numbers and budgets, and able to explain and visualize them to people who are not? Are you robust and can you be the backbone of the organization? Then you may be our new Finance & Administration Director!

As Finance & Administration Director you are part of the Leadership Team and will manage the Operations cluster composed by Finance, Facility, HR & IT and Accountability. The focus of the position is on financial and accountability management. ActionAid Denmark’s (AADK) total budget is 250 mio. kr., which comes from private contributions from 35.000 members and supporters, social businesses as well as institutional funding from Danida (Denmark’s development cooperation under the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs), EU and private foundations. But the role is also about managing the Operations cluster and ensure master planning and control.

Your main role will be to:

  • Ensure AADK’s decisions and activities are based on a strong and reliable financial management and recommendations.
  • Support the whole organization with strong operations based on adapted and up-to-date project models and procedures.
  • Ensure clear yearly priorities based on a well-functioning overall Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation process that supports internal and external accountability, documentation and learning and to drive attention towards the needs of our primary stakeholders.

You can expect a challenging position and to fix square wheels while moving and create simplicity in a complex environment. At the same time you will balance a strategic focus and eye for the overall finances of the organization with the need to understand, relate and be involved at the operational level.

More specifically within Financial Management, we expect you to:

  • Provide board, leadership and managers reliable budgets, forecast and results, as well as strategic recommendations and risk mitigations; take corrective actions to reach budgets; and advice to comply with donors’ engagements and reach AADK financial goals.
  • Be prepared to challenge and give sparring to all parts of the organization, including the Leadership team and be ready to always lend a hand in the day-to-day operation.
  • Manage to develop up-to-date and efficient systems and processes for financial forecasting and budgets, and oversee the preparation of all financial reporting and risk management, having constantly an eye on planning, development and follow up on financials

As leader of the Operations Cluster, your responsibilities are:

  • To identify needs and opportunities across the organization, set the overall strategic perspective and priorities of the Operations Cluster (Finance, People & Systems, Facility Management, and Accountability Unit) and take the overall responsibility of cluster coordination and deliveries in accordance with organization needs, resources and priorities.
  • The line management and support of cluster’s Heads of Teams (Finance, People & System Development, Facility Management, and Accountability) and contribute to the shared organizational leadership in the Leadership Team.
  • Represent AADK and leadership in committees such as Cooperation, Complaints, Procurement etc.; facilitate communication and coordination among the Management Group; and support overall staff and organizational policy compliance

Lastly, as Master Planner and controller, you will be the direct manager for the Accountability Unit, facilitate determination of yearly priorities for the organization and be overall responsible for running a well-functioning Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation (PME) process.

The position refers to the Secretary General. Limited travel activity is expected (about one week twice a year).

We expect you to have:

As minimum:

  • A financial educational background within accounting or business administration, or equivalent
  • Minimum 8 years leadership experience within financial management in large and complex project or/and multi funding-oriented organizations, preferably as a CFO, Finance Director or a similar position in Denmark

We will also appreciate some of the financial management experiences below:

  • Solid experience in supporting program-work in an international setting (ie demonstrate understanding of donors, compliance, and accountability issues)
  • Extended experience within the area of new economic models including social economy and self-financing
  • Experience in managing systems for transparency, reporting and prioritization at organization level

Personally, you can demonstrate:

  • The ability to combine attention to detail with the big picture in complex situations, cut-through, prioritize and support teams to deliver high performance on deadlines.
  • That you are a wizard with numbers and budgets and the ability to explain and visualize them to people who are not.
  • Ability to develop a solid understanding of businesses models and use your knowledge to constructively challenge teams so business decisions are grounded in solid financial criteria.
  • Ability to be the backbone of the organization – but with a heart, and to drive compliance in a way that listens to concerns and engages people.
  • Integrity and power awareness, cultivating talent and growth of others as well as a culture of diversity and inclusion, and being good at given and receiving feedback.
