We are seeking a highly motivated postdoc to strengthen the current understanding of adeno associated virus (AAV) transduction to support our gene therapy programs. The Position: The Viral Delivery department within RNA and Gene Therapies is searching for a skilled scientist for a two-year postdoc fellowship. AAV is currently setting the benchmark in terms of safety and effectivity for transferring genomic material to cells in vivo. Accordingly, AAV has emerged as one of the main vectors for gene therapy. Yet, our understanding of the AAV vector genome metabolism in transduced cells remains poorly understood. The primary role for this postdoc position will be to look at molecular mechanisms involved in endocytosis, intracellular trafficking, capsid processing, nuclear import and genome release with an emphasis on the most recent discoveries in the field and the emerging strategies used to improve the efficiency of AAV-derived vectors. Learnings from the project will guide innovation in the development of vector genome engineering strategies to ultimately support our gene therapies across a broad range of disease areas and targets. The position is a part of the Accelerating Research and Innovation for Advanced Therapies (ARDAT) initiative. ARDAT is a five-year European Commission funded consortium supported by the Innovative Medicines Initiative, that brings together leading expertise of 34 academic, non-profit, and private organizations including Novo Nordisk. The position is a two-year fellowship, with no option for extension. General responsibilities: Collaborate with scientists in the department to devise and direct the overall scientific project. Conceive, design, perform, and analyse experiments. Methodically maintain detailed electronic lab records. Author scientific manuscripts, and present data at scientific conferences and internal/external meetings. General Qualifications: Ph.D. in relevant areas such as molecular biology, AAV biology, virology, cell biology, or other relevant research fields. Applicants highly skilled in gene expression profiling (RNA-Seq), molecular cloning, qPCR, ddPCR, CRISPR technology, NGS, confocal microscopy and FISH are preferred. Knowledge of AAV transduction and AAV production methods is desired. Excellent technical writing skills. Superb organizational, analytical, and communications skills. About the department: Viral Delivery is a newly established department with a clear purpose of enabling future RNA and gene therapies applications. The department is a part of the RNA and Gene Therapies area. We are developing curative and disease-modifying therapies for individuals living with serious chronic conditions, spearheaded via co-creational innovation with external partners. Treatment of disease mechanisms operating inside cells, including gene expression is enabled by emerging intracellular drug modalities. Using state of the art technologies, we are building genome editing and RNA capabilities and establishing viral and non-viral drug delivery platforms, to enable the disease-specific design of impactful drugs.
