Are you a talented and highly motivated postdoc interested in biomarkers? Do you wish to join the Novo Nordisk-led Innovative Healthcare’s Initiative (IHI) project iCARE4CVD? If yes, then apply today for a life changing opportunity!
About the project
The burden of cardiovascular disease (CVD) on society is significant, affecting over 85 million people in Europe. The overall prevalence continues to grow due to lifestyle and aging population. Despite the significant advancements in therapy, heart failure (HF) still presents a 5-year mortality rate of 20-50%. The iCARE4CVD project aims to address this burden by contributing to three essential steps to improve the current care pathways, across all stages from early risk to established HF: 1) early diagnosis to identify patients at risk of CVD and divide them into clinically meaningful subgroups; 2) risk stratification for these subgroups to define the urgency for intervention; and 3) identification of the optimal prediction of treatment response for each subgroup. iCARE4CVD Consortium
iCARE4CVD is an EU-wide consortium of leading partners in the field of CVD, that aims to deliver validated prediction models for enhanced diagnosis, risk stratification, and prediction of treatment response in CVD. These models will be used to define novel care pathways across the spectrum of CVD (i.e., from early risk to established HF) by using biomarkers and predictive algorithms to assess changes in risk and stratify patients according to their individual responses to therapy. By being a central part of this initiative, you will have the opportunity to expand your network across both the industrial and public partners involved in this collaboration. The position
The successful candidate will be involved in selecting relevant interventional cohorts from Novo Nordisk´s pipeline with datasets encompassing 1) broad clinical parameters, 2) identifying biomarkers (including blood-derived markers, multi-omics, imaging, and wearables), and 3) combining with data from Health tools. Some of your main tasks related to the project will include: • Assaying patient samples using state-of-the-art proteomic analysis technologies and established methods to identify and test both novel and established biomarkers.
• Analyzing the obtained data using classical statistical methods and, in collaboration with the Digital Science and Innovation organization, artificial intelligence to identify the best suitable biomarkers.
• Collaborating with the CVD disease area and external partners to contribute to the validation of:
a) distinct subgroups of patients in prospective cohorts
b) new Artificial Intelligence (AI) based predictive models for development and/or progression of cardiovascular disease in patients with (risk of) atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD), type 1/2 diabetes, chronic kidney disease (CKD), structural heart disease and chronic heart failure, and compare them against established scores
c) the clinical value (e.g., response to therapy) of novel risk models and eHealth monitoring in prospective cohorts provided by public and private partners in prospective pilot trials.
• Assuming responsibility, stakeholder management, clear communication, and driving research work will be essential parts of your workday.
• Liaising with the public-private partnership team, participating in communication and publication activities.
The position is of two years’ duration starting 1st of October 2023 based in Måløv, Greater Copenhagen area, Denmark. Qualifications
You hold a Ph.D. in a relevant discipline such as human physiology, biomedicine etc. Alternatively, a medical doctor with strong interest and expertise in precision medicine and biomarker identification.
To succeed in this role you possess:
• Expertise in molecular and bioanalytical techniques.
• Previous hands-on experience with large omics methodologies and data handling and analysis.
• Expertise in the cardiovascular disease area will be highly advantageous.
• Strong data analysis and data interpretation skills.
• Fluency in English, both written and spoken (company language).
On a personal level, you have strong collaborative and communication skills. You are well-organized, capable of working independently and with a strong personal drive and dedication. About the Department
Translational Research is committed to identifying biomarkers and generating high-quality biomarker data to guide decision-making in research & development and generate precision medicine hypotheses. In Translational Research we utilize state-of-the-art in vitro, in vivo, and omics-based methods and technologies for biomarker identification. We harbour facilities for mass spectrometry-based proteomics and peptidomics analysis, as well as molecular imaging analysis. Additionally, we establish and qualify biomarker assays to support drug discovery and provide guidance on the feasibility of biomarkers and delivering biomarker data that is crucial for maturing the next generation of drugs. Translational Research is part of Global Translation, an organizational area responsible for the application of translational methodologies across all the therapy areas in Novo Nordisk. Our ambition is to ensure early, data-driven decision-making in clinical trials by application of biomarkers of target engagement, proof-of-mechanism, and guiding precision medicine.
