DanChurchAid (DCA) is looking for a dynamic and experienced Country Director for our Programme in Nepal.
As Country Director, you will be the overall manager of the DCA Nepal office and country programme. You will lead the DCA country management team, ensure good staff welfare, and promote a constructive working environment. You will be responsible for developing strategic direction and ensure high quality, accountable and innovative programme implementation.
DCA Nepal country programme builds on a strong strategy and track record in value chain-based and climate resilient livelihoods work, climate adaptation, citizen participation in local good governance, gender and human rights defence, disaster preparedness and risk reduction, WASH, and effective humanitarian responses. We have ambitious targets for lifting the most vulnerable out of poverty, following a rights-based approach, growth and quality programming. You will be responsible for developing and maintaining relations to donors and other stakeholders and identifying programmatic expansion opportunities and new partnerships with institutional donors, the private sector, NGOs and research institutions.
DCA works through local civil society organisations. DCA in Nepal office currently has 26 staff, and you will be based in Kathmandu.

A three-year contract starting 1st April 2020 or as soon as possible hereafter. Terms according to our Handbook for DCA expatriate personnel, family postings, including 12,17% pension contribution and 6 weeks’ vacation per year.

We are expecting you to:
- Provide strategic leadership of the country programme in Nepal and to further develop the programme in line with DCA strategy and priorities by working together with partner organisations, building capacity and continually supporting staff’s development.
- Maintain an oversight over all financial and administrative matters as well as of the staff.
- Represent DCA and proactively build and strengthen relationships in Nepal towards embassies, donors, partners, authorities and other stakeholders.
- Be proactive in fundraising and prioritise enhancing the funding portfolio of Nepal office.
- Meet DCA organisational performance benchmarks and related deadlines.
- Engage in proactive communication and media work with constituencies in Denmark.
We are looking for:
- At least 5 years of proven experience in leadership and results-based management at a Country Director level or equivalent position.
- At least 8-10 years of documented experience in managing development and preferably also humanitarian programmes.
- Proven experience with successful fundraising and diverse donor relations as well as advocacy.
- Experience in working with digital solutions, innovative programming, market linkage/ value chain and private sector engagement, gender and youth empowerment, good governance, complaint handling mechanisms as well as working with local partners and social movements.
- Cultural sensitivity, strong communication skills, proven diplomatic skills and the ability to build relations both within and outside DCA.
- Ability to lead and motivate staff and create a conductive work environment.
- Entrepreneurial drive and commitment to getting the job done.
- Relevant academic education at Master’s level.
- Fluency in English – oral as well as written
