As Country Director, you will be the overall manager of the DCA Kenya program. You will lead the DCA country management team and ensure good staff welfare and constructive working environment. You will be responsible for defining strategic direction and ensure high quality, accountable and innovative program implementation. The Kenya office and program strategy builds on ambitious targets for expansion and growth. You will be responsible for the identification of programmatic expansion opportunities and new partnerships with institutional donors, private sector and research institutions. You will also represent DCA in targeted regional coordination mechanisms on development and humanitarian assistance of wider relevance to DCA in the region.
DCA’s program in Kenya includes humanitarian and long-term development programming. We work with self-reliance, resilience, peacebuilding, civic education, value chains, private sector engagement, empowerment and protection of refugees and poor people and communities in Kakuma refugee camp and the counties of Turkana, West Pokot, Elegeyo Marakwet, Baringo, Siaya, Busia, Nakuru and Nyandarua. The program has a strong focus on innovation and empowerment and opportunities for youth. DCA mainly works through partners but we also implement activities directly. Currently DCA has 20 staff with planned expansion to 30 staff by mid 2020, and more than 30 refugee incentive staff. You will be based in Nairobi with frequent travel to the field, including our field offices in Kakuma, Lodwar and Nakuru.

We are looking for:
- At least 5 years proven experience in leadership and results based management at a County Director level or equivalent position.
- At least 10 years documented experience in managing development and humanitarian programmes
- Proven experiences with successful fundraising and donor relations (in a highly competitive funding environment), private sector and innovative processes.
- Experience in refugees and host community programming, market-based livelihoods, job creation, youth empowerment, CHS, humanitarian-development-peace nexus and local partners is an advantage
- Cultural sensitivity, strong communication skills, proven diplomatic skills and the ability to build relations both within and outside DCA
- Ability to lead and motivate staff and create a conductive work environment
- Entrepreneurial drive and commitment to getting the job done
- Holds a relevant tertiary academic education at Master’s level
- Fluency in English – oral as well as written
We offer:
- A three-year contract starting 1st June 2020. Terms are according to Handbook for DCA expatriate personnel, Family postings and salary ranging from DKK 36,000 to 43,000 depending on level of experience on top of that 12,17% pension contribution and 6 weeks’ vacation per year.
