As DanChurchAid’s (DCA’s) Country Director, you are the overall manager of the DCA Ethiopia Country programme. You are responsible for developing strategic direction and jointly with the DCA Ethiopia team ensure high quality, accountable and innovative programme implementation that supports vulnerable communities in Ethiopia. You lead the DCA country management team, ensuring good staff welfare and a constructive working environment with a strong emphasis on security management. You play a key role in expanding the programme, you are responsible for maintaining relations to the government, donors, UN, and other key stakeholders. You drive partnership development, identify new and innovative partnerships with NGOs, faith based organisations, private sector, and research institutions.

DCA Ethiopia Country Programme comprises a diverse portfolio of activities ranging from responding to refugee crisis, supporting host communities and improving livelihood of poor rural communities following a nexus approach, linking emergency response to recovery and long-term development. The work is characterised by partner implementation and projects under direct DCA implementation and contains strong components of private sector collaboration in relation to value creation.

The position entails the overall responsibility to lead and manage the country programme, including app. 100 national staff and an annual project turnover of app. 10 million USD. DCA’s main office is in Addis Ababa, with field offices in Bale, Waghimra, Gambella, and Afar.

We are looking for:
  • At least 5 years proven experience in leadership and results-based management at a County Director level or equivalent position.
  • At least 10 years documented experience in managing development and humanitarian programmes
  • Experience in integrated refugee and host community programming (Nexus), cash-based programming, digital solutions, market-based livelihoods, women and youth empowerment, and extensive experience working with local partners.
  • Proven experiences with successful fundraising and donor relations, UN, private sector and innovative processes.
  • Experience with budgeting and financial oversight of programmes
  • Cultural sensitivity, strong communication skills, proven diplomatic skills and the ability to build relations both within and outside DCA
  • Ability to lead and motivate staff and create a conductive work environment
  • Entrepreneurial drive and commitment to getting the job done
  • Holds a relevant tertiary academic education at Master’s level
  • Fluency in English – oral as well as written

We offer
A three-year contract. Start 1st November 2021 (or earlier). Terms are according to Handbook for DCA expatriate personnel, family postings. 12,17% pension contribution and 6 weeks’ vacation per year and other benefits.
