Are you ready to take the next step in your career? Can you see yourself working within a department where we constantly develop our processes and products horizontally within a very wide scope? If so, we've got the opportunity for you!

Product Functions Transport, Construction & Maintenance (PFTCM) is a department within Vestas R&D organization, Vestas Power Solutions (VPS). VPS is a cornerstone of Vestas and is shaping the future of modern energy by developing and maturing new products and technologies. The main responsibility for PFTCM is to contribute to the possibility of transporting, constructing, and maintaining wind turbines all over the world - also in remote areas in challenging terrain. We push the boundaries of what's possible to allow turbines and components to grow and push the known boundaries for size, shape, and weight. To do this we constantly look for new ways to transport and construct faster, cheaper and under harsher conditions. We are important contributors to allowing wind power to go to parts of the world where electricity is in short demand.

Responsibilities

The primary task and responsibility for a Manufacturing Assembly Specialist in PFTCM is to develop, design and optimize high level manufacturing processes in close collaboration with relevant stakeholders. Further to define requirements for new processes or equipment, troubleshooting and to identify and implement process improvements. Key to the role is that the Manufacturing Assembly Specialist has full ownership and leads the development from concept and requirement specification on to final verification of prototype.

An example of a project for the Manufacturing Assembly Specialist could be to develop the best setup for onsite assembly. When deciding on a site for a wind turbine or a park of turbines we obviously look at the wind conditions for the site. These conditions might be fantastic for the turbine to produce electricity - but not necessarily for transportation of the components or for us to construct the turbine at site. In this case the task is to come up with concepts and best possible assembly processes. A typical development process could like this:

  • Ideation for new concepts and solutions
  • Process mapping
  • Proof of concept using models or simulation
  • Definition of product and module level requirements and performance
  • Stakeholder involvement to ensure full value chain buy-in
  • Guiding and follow up with other departments development process to ensure compliance to product level requirements
  • On site verification of the product and module performance

Qualifications

  • Relevant engineering degree e.g. Production Engineering or Mechanical Design (M.Sc.)
  • Experience working within and designing manufacturing processes to combine components or raw material into a finished product
  • Experience working with Lean principles
  • Experience in simulation of manufacturing systems

Competencies

To become a success in this position you should be an engineer by heart. We imagine that you are the type of person who has your kitchen draws organized in a very specific way; and you know why - and when you look at new things, you always see opportunities for improvements and optimization. What is key, is that you should be comfortable with proposing new solutions, also if the solution is proven to not be suitable. You must be able to do this in a structured and methodical way based on your theoretical and technical knowledge and experience.

In addition, it is key that you are aware that you will be part of a huge value chain and you will play an important part in making the value chain work. This means that you must be comfortable with not doing everything yourself - hence delegating, share or even outsourcing parts or full components to colleagues, partners, or suppliers. This requires an ability to both be technically detailed, while at the same time keeping the full overview and performing a project manager function towards suppliers and stakeholders.

What we offer

We offer an exciting job with great opportunities for professional and personal development in an inspiring environment as part of the world's leading wind turbine manufacturer. You will become part of a highly professional environment with a broad interface and work closely with colleagues from all parts and levels of the organization. We value initiative and willingness to take ownership.

Your work location will be at Vestas office at Aarhus, DK. Up to 2-4 weeks/year is expected.
