Hi there!
I’m Marie and besides being the Head of Marine People Strategy in Marine HR, I also have a strong passion for driving a diverse and inclusive culture.
It’s so important to me and to Marine HR, that we have now created a separate position for it – one that I hope you will apply for.
A significant opportunity to make a meaningful impact on Diversity and Inclusion - something that has been close to our heart for years, but we still have a lot of unrealized potential within this area.
It’s not like we have been laying low at all and as an example we have in 2020 signed a charter making a strong commitment to increase our fair
share of women in shipping. However, diversity and inclusion is not only a gender game, it is so much more, and we need to encompass that as a part of our dedicated Marine HR Diversity and Inclusion strategy – the one that you will lead and implement.
We already have tons of ideas on what you could do such as:
- Refine the strategy, develop the next actions and share it broadly
- Create events/happenings to spark further engagement on the topic
- Work with external parties (everything from identifying vendors, manage the relationships and evaluate where we will participate)
- Represent our company and course at various events
- Organize trainings in close collaboration with our training team
To own the approach of how you will achieve this. It will largely be up to you as long as it is impactful (easy right? 😊).
If I were to give ideas, I would envision an inclusive approach where you use sounding boards consisting of our seafarers and internal D&I experts and that you co-develop the initiatives in close collaboration with our Marine People Advisor teams, as they will own the daily execution of those.
We will decide on priorities together, but it will be on you to drive the daily implementation and execution of these, whether this is participating in fairs debating diversity in shipping, giving presentations or sitting side by side with the team is up to you.
You will of course be collaborating with a lot of stakeholders and thus it will be beneficial if you have previous experience with leading larger projects and managing multiple workstreams. Furthermore, we will not be doing it alone and you should expect to also be engaging with external vendors on the topic. This should however be fairly easy; they are just as passionate as I expect you to be.
Your passion for this role will likely be the one differentiator I would hope you very clearly express in your application.
You may not have worked with diversity and inclusion actively before, but you can clearly express your passion and how you would approach the task ahead and you are able to combine it with your strong project management skills.
I would also hope some of the below words applies to you:
- Courageous; as you need to have the courage to stand up and show the world how we will change D&I for our seafarers
- Headstrong; as you need to see everything you do through
- Caring; as in everything we do, we care for our seafarers
