I’m Julie and I just about to leave this wonderful position as Head of Marine People Europe. I’ll stay in the organization and leadership team in a different role, so this is me, trying to recruit you to be my new management colleague.
Yes, I’m about to convince you to take on a position that I’m leaving – but trust me, it was and still is, with a heavy heart. But enough about me, this should be all about you!

What will you offer to me? You ask. That is the absolute right question and let me quickly touch on it. Well as a starter, your formal title is Head of Marine People Europe and Director – that’s cool right?
Additionally, you will get a lot of fun and very experienced colleagues in the management team and the opportunity to work in a truly global environment.
I personally promise to be your most fun colleague and to help you get safely onboard (yes pun intended, see how fun this already is?). Your onboarding will also include you going on a vessel to sail with the seafarers your support – what better way to learn?
I’ll stop here, as I’m slightly biased. I loved this role and I’ll look very much forward to collaborating with you when you take it over.
Key responsibilities
As a Head of Marine People Europe, you are responsible for the HR support for ~2500 seafarers and you are working with your team of 25 employees to do so. Ultimately what this role is about is caring for our seafarers. Every initiative we take on, every process we optimize, every day is about how we make the life of our seafarers even better – this will ultimately be your focus.
You have quite a broad job-scope, as the Europe function covers everything from Operational HR-support such as issuing the right contracts and ensuring the right training, to CBA negotiations with unions, to performance debriefings with our Cadets, to conducting performance, promotion and disciplinaries with our seafarers, to review and optimize internal processes, to re-thinking training initiatives, to recruitment of seafarers, to implementation of new initiatives within D&I, Welfare and Wellbeing etc.
The amount of work and complexity in the work can’t be explained in just a few points, but above should give you a sense of what we do and it shouldn’t scare you at all, as you will have deeply specialised and smart teams to support you.
In fact, let’s talk about how you would succeed as a leader in this team.
You will have broad exposure as you will be managing your own function in Europe. That is the 25 awesome colleagues, who are good at what they do.
Additionally, there are similar functions in India and Philippines doing the similar work as you do in Europe, so naturally you will have a close collaboration with the two other Heads of these functions. Finally, you will work closely together with multiple other functions in Fleet Management Technology, as you rarely would do anything in isolation.
This means, that to be a success, you both need to be able to and thrive in managing multiple stakeholders and keeping your cool, as you will have a lot of different initiatives going on at the same time.
We are looking for
• You come with strong project management and HR toolbox. A lot of what we do is daily operations, but with the journey we are on, we need you to be able to also drive strategic important projects.
We want to tab into your ideas on how we can optimize our daily operations as well as how we can care even more for our seafarers, so it would be great that you are quite experienced and have worked on people-centric projects before.
• You are not new to leadership. You do not need to have managed a large function before, but you need to know how to develop and motivate teams. The colleagues you will manage are awesome, they deserve that you bring your absolute A-game when leading them.
• You have an experience (or more) that shaped you other than work.
Maybe you are parent and can tell us how taking a year of maternity leave taught you something? Maybe you took a work-break and travelled the world?
The teams you will be managing are diverse; some are parents, some are newly graduated, some just moved to Denmark and some used to sail as a seafarer themselves.
You will be leading whole people – we expect you to be that as well.
If you have knowledge about the maritime world it would be great (!), but it is definitely not a requirement. We value your strong HR knowledge, your experiences, and your leadership abilities way more.
