UX Designer

Maersk is the largest shipping and container logistics company in the world. A $40bn organization with over 85,000 people, we ship roughly 20% of the world’s container freight. We’re bringing our organization together to become an integrated container shipping and logistics company, fundamentally re-thinking how we do business. Improving our customer experience is a core priority. We are looking for an ambitious User Experience Designer to map, connect and transform the internal user experience, while aligning it with the customer experience.

Maersk is strengthening its User Experience (UX) designing capability. We are looking for a UX designer with strong communication skills and who is used to collaborate closely with different user groups. We have different platform portfolios today where you will join the Platform Portfolio 1, representing Sales and Customer Service. You will focus on the internal user journey across these two functions, and potentially more parts of the company. The role is expected to collaborate with all teams under different portfolios, collaborate closely with the UX community of practice (CoP).

Our solutions/applications are all mainly considered as internal applications but may be reused externally (for customers) with time. Our “internal” users like sales representatives, or customer service agents are based in multiple locations across the world. Our “external” users are globally represented.

Due to the nature of the work, it is possible that you work with very different parts of our organisation, which will give you the opportunity to learn new things, but also requires you to learn fast and adapt. The types of stakeholders will also be very diverse, and you will see different ways of working in different portfolios. Change, flexibility and problem solving are key traits that will help you get the most out of the role.

Our UX approach is based on composable UX architecture. We are looking to standardize the user interfaces by reusing some core UX patterns and designs, all while keeping aligned with the experience we offer to our customers.

Key responsibilities

Responsibilities for this role include, but are not limited to:

  • Help to map and define the different personas that use our products
  • Create a simple, intuitive, and attractive user interface for our users
  • Co-create the future user interface, with composable UX
  • Establish and standardize UX components to be leveraged by multiple teams
  • Scope and plan for UX projects, research and see synergies between the use cases of different functions
  • Responsible for implementation of discovery and design workshops to visualize requirements
  • Enables transformation of ideas, business opportunities, research and creative vision into desirable outcomes for our users
  • Creates detailed wireframes, high fidelity mock-ups, information architecture diagrams, mental models, personas, usability testing stimulus, and site maps
  • Plans and conduct interviews to understand user needs, behaviours, and pain points
  • Works closely with colleagues to brainstorm and create concepts for Web, Mobile, Tablet and Desktop environments
  • Ability to clearly articulate both problems and proposed solutions
  • Work closely with Design Community of Practice (CoP) to build a standardised UX processes and reusable UX elements

Skills needed

  • Fluency with design tools, most notably Figma and Miro. Optional and appreciated: Sketch, Adobe XD, Invision, Axure RP, OmniGraffle, Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, and/or other UX and prototyping software.
  • Experienced in leading a project from a UX Design perspective
  • Knowledge of agile practices, design thinking, visual design, interaction design, information architecture, and design industry trends
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills; ability to clearly articulate and communicate ideas with senior level management
  • Must be well versed in the principles of design and fully comprehend the design elements to ensure user interface is usable in every sense.
  • Experience in iterative product design planning and development
  • Experience creating and working with design systems and/or UI pattern libraries.
  • Ability to simplify and turn complex interactions into intuitive user experiences
  • Experience with planning and facilitating usability testing
  • HTML and CSS

Your ability to collaborate with others will be key, along with an ability to present and defend holistic concepts at the top and bottom of the organization.
