Maersk Energy Markets (MEM) is looking for a Head of Risk Management to lead our Risk Management function. MEM is part of the Energy Transition Division of APMM and is responsible for delivering cost-competitive energy to the group, creating value through asset optimisation, and ensuring best in class bunker supply in more than 200 ports globally for more than 750 vessels. MEM sources more than 10 million metric tonnes of fuel annually to Ocean from external suppliers and via our own supply chain by sourcing raw materials, blending them into finished fuel grades and delivering them using our fleet of barges. Through our commitment to become net-zero by 2040, our fuel mix is turning green, and this position will be key to ensuring that we balance risk and value creation in both existing and new markets.The Head of Risk Management will be responsible for identifying, analyzing, and mitigating risks associated with our commodities trading activities, including market, credit and operational risks. Reporting into the Global Head of Finance, Energy Transition, this role will lead a team focusing on 3 key areas:
- Market Risk
- Credit Risk
- Product Control
Responsibilities
As Risk Leader to the Energy Markets business and energy transition, your key responsibilities include:
Risk Assessment and Mitigation
- Develop and implement comprehensive risk management strategies and frameworks for existing and new products.
- Identify, assess, and monitor market, credit and operational risks related to trading activities.
- Design and execute risk mitigation plans to minimize the impact of adverse events.
Risk and Control Monitoring and Reporting
- Establish and operate robust risk and valuation monitoring systems and ensure continuous oversight of trading activities.
- Oversee daily reporting including P&L and market exposure.
- Develop and maintain risk dashboards and key risk indicators (KRIs).
Risk Compliance and Regulatory Management
- Stay abreast of regulatory changes and assess their impact on trading activities.
- Liaise with regulatory bodies and auditors as required.
- Chair the risk committee and prepare and present regular risk reports to Energy Transition leadership, Risk Committee, Audit Committee, and Group Treasury.
Strategic Planning
- As part of Energy Markets Leadership, contribute to the development of Energy Markets organisation’s strategic plans with a focus on risk management.
- Evaluate new business opportunities and assess associated risks.
- Support strategic decision-making with risk assessments and scenario analyses.
Leadership and team management
- Lead and develop a high-performing team.
- Foster a risk-aware culture across the organization.
- Collaborate with other Maersk teams to ensure risk management is integrated.
What You Bring
- Knowledge of managing all types of financial risk and trading PNL valuation, including market risk management and methodologies, credit risk management, and operational risk.
- Experience in the commodities trading sector, particularly with oil and green fuels.
- Demonstrate strong analytical, strategic, and leadership skills, including leadership of risk specialists.
- Relevant tertiary qualification such as degree in mathematics, finance or economics, and risk qualification such as CFA.
