About our client


Matas, one of Denmark’s best-known brands, was founded in 1949. In Denmark Matas consists of 265 stores as well as an extensive, online business. Matas was listed on the stock exchange in June 2013. In 2019 Matas Group acquired Kosmolet, the brand owner of Nilens Jord and in 2022 they acquired Miild, a well-renowned, allergy certificated beauty brand. Kosmolet will serve as the platform of international expansion for Matas Group. Besides managing existing brands, a part of the strategy will also be to develop and/or acquire beauty brands where the brand essence is truly Nordic heritage and Nordic soul. As International Brand Manager you will be located at Matas’ head offices in Allerød together with international based colleagues and reporting to the Director of Matas Brands.

An exciting role with many opportunities


The purpose of the role is to build Denmark’s largest, prestige beauty brand both in the Nordics and in selected, international markets. This is a new brand, which originates from consumer insights and in collaboration with international beauty advisors and key stakeholders. The role of International Brand Manager is very entrepreneurial. Besides brand building it also include the responsibility for new product development, in collaboration with 3rd party turnkey suppliers, perfume houses and skincare laboratories. The right candidate will be given huge responsibility and touch upon all aspect in the marketing toolbox. This global role will be supported by partners (PR agencies, SoMe agencies, creative agencies etc.) that are all based in Denmark and Europe. For the right candidate this position will probably be seen as a dream position with never ending potential and opportunities.

Primary Responsibilities

Your responsibility is to powerfully represent the brand to external and internal stakeholders and to create and build the “brand magic” by making it desirable and by knowing which partners to activate (and in which order). E.g. High-end retail Influential journalists & Influencers, curation of brand ambassadors, collaboration with similar-minded brands and to ‘be seen in the right places with the right people`. As International Brand Manager you will also review and constantly evolve the brand DNA and its mission.

Other responsibilities


  • Build and create annual marketing plans, including B2B, B2C – retail, digital and social media.
  • Creation and implementation of product concepts in fragrance, skincare (choice of ingredients, packaging, efficacy tests, production, packaging), haircare and potentially make-up. The whole NPD process.
  • Creation of marketing plans and marketing material (POS, samples, testers, product, and mood visuals).
  • With an outside agency or consultant(s), build the content strategy and visual language, ensuring digital visibility on social media (organic & paid), organic search and 3rd party websites.
  • Research and engage with potential brand partners. Engaging with key opinion leaders and journalists (via PR Agency) to tell the brand- and product stories to gain visibility and create ‘brand magic’.
  • Creation and on-going development of the brand (storytelling, creation of brand DNA, creative development, and execution etc.)
  • Cost management, brand P&L management.
  • On-going, competitive, and own product/band analysis. How are we doing? Where can we do better?
  • Providing key sales arguments and data for the sales team.
  • Production forecasting and primary contact for 3rd party supply chain.

Professional experience and competencies


We expect the right candidate to be passionate and innovative, while also having a strategic and analytical approach and strong insights and interests in beauty and design; to know what ‘moves out there in the field of beauty’. The people around you experience you as a strong communicator with excellent presentation skills, and an ability to influence and convince others to buy in on ideas and plans. Professionally, you come with relevant experience that combines digitalization, commercial understanding, strategic product management as well as being able to navigate in an innovative context. When it comes to people management, your leadership skills enable you to create engagement and motivation among your employees. Additionally, you have experience in following areas:

  • International retail experience and awareness of global trends in beauty and fashion.
  • Previous working experience from collaborating with prestigious, international beauty- or fashion brand, with a grounding in either product development or classical brand marketing. (Preferably three years’ experience).
  • “Start-up mentality”: The agility, flexibility and pace needed to lead a new brand. Equally comfortable pivoting between “strategy” and “hands-on”, while delivering a ground-breaking brand and product innovation with minimal in-house resources.

  • Some experience in the NPD process, developing products and brands from scratch. Track record of building a credible, enduring, and profitable brand has achieved considerable customer loyalty and affinity.
  • The ability to oscillate between developing brand evolution strategy and leading ongoing commercial marketing activity. Balancing creative leadership with excellence in brand execution – and commercial drive. Able to drive performance through all marketing channels – particularly Digital and PR.
  • Industry network – from labs/manufacturers to creative agencies.
  • The gravitas and professional credibility to effectively manage external partners and potential customers.
  • Already living in or able to relocate to Copenhagen. Native in Danish. Fluent in English; both written and oral.
