The Head of Site Operations will oversee the transformation and daily operations of different sized datacenter sites, co-location facilities (repeater / ILA sites, and Points of Presence (PoPs) across the Nordic and north Germany region. The ideal candidate will be a leader in transformational operational excellence with both hands-on experience and consultancy IT/Network transformation expertise. Knowledge of critical site IT operations, transport networks, access networks and IT datacenter equipment is essential for success in this role. The Head of Site Operations will be responsible for driving innovation, optimizing operational practices and consolidation of Sites where applicable to meet evolving business and technological demands. The Head of Site Operations reports directly to the Senior Vice President, Chief Technology & Operations Officer (CTOO).

The candidate must be based in either Stockholm, Oslo or Copenhagen area and be fluent in minimum 1 Scandinavian language.

SCOPE

Strategic Leadership & Transformation:

  • Lead the transformation of datacenter and site operations across the Nordic region, aligning practices with evolving technological and business goals working closely with the Site Strategy and Planning team.
  • Spearhead innovative projects to improve operational efficiency, scalability, and flexibility across the network of Data Center sites, co-locations, and PoPs while simplifying and consolidating where possible.
  • Implement a transformational approach to operational excellence, applying both real-world experience and best-practice consultancy methodologies to drive cultural and operational change.

Day-to-Day Operations Management:

  • Oversee daily operations of all site facilities and the related network infrastructures, ensuring performance, uptime, and service quality.
  • Tackle operational challenges hands-on, ensuring smooth and continuous operations, with a focus on transport, sites & DC facilities in terms of power and equipment performance on the sites.

Team Management & Leadership:

  • Manage a team of 30+ full-time staff and 3-5 middle managers, cultivating a high-performance culture through coaching, mentorship, and team development.
  • Lead by example, develop the first line leaders, promoting collaboration across teams and sites, and fostering an adaptive, forward-thinking team environment.

Vendor & Supplier Management:

  • Collaborate with vendors and suppliers to ensure cost-effective, high-quality services, particularly around power, cooling, network infrastructure, and equipment.
  • Lead negotiations and maintain service agreements to ensure in co-opertion with other Technology functions, optimized performance of site & datacenter plus network-related infrastructure.

Capacity Planning & Optimization:

  • Monitor and optimize the capacity of all facilities, ensuring space, power, cooling, and network resources support business needs, standards and technological advancements.
  • Avoid down time by ensuring all facilities operate at optimal efficiency.

Risk Management & Compliance:

  • Ensure all sites operate in compliance with security, regulatory, and environmental standards.
  • Create plan towards Carrier Grade operations together with Engineering and implement once this is done
  • Lead disaster recovery planning, risk management, and business continuity strategies for the Nordic region.

Budgeting & Cost Control:

  • Oversee and manage the operational budget for site operations, including the 30 FTS, Data Centers, co-locations, and PoPs.
  • Implement cost-control strategies while maintaining high service quality, identifying innovative cost-saving opportunities.
  • Drive efficiency in either Unit costs and/or number of sites

Technology Integration & Innovation:

  • Collaborate with IT/Network, engineering, and network teams to integrate relevant technologies, monitoring and automation tools that enhance site operations and efficiency.
  • Drive technological innovation to improve both site and network infrastructure performance.
  • Drive site consolidation and cost efficiency measures

Sustainability & Energy Efficiency:

  • Lead sustainability initiatives to minimize environmental impact through energy-efficient practices and technologies.
  • Ensure the long-term sustainability of site operations by driving energy-efficient processes.

CANDIDATE PROFILE

Education:

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in engineering, Information Technology, or a related field. MBA or relevant executive education is a plus.
  • Minimum of 10+ years of experience in IT/Network Operations management, site operations, Consultancy Advisory or general IT/Network infrastructure, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role.
  • Proven track record of leading transformation initiatives and managing large-scale site operations, including co-locations and PoPs.
  • Experience managing over 30 FTS and leading a team of middle managers in a complex operational environment.
  • Experience overseeing multiple sites and geographies, with a focus on the Nordic region.

Technical Skills:

  • Strong understanding of datacenter or IT/Network infrastructure design, power systems, cooling technologies, networking, and cloud infrastructure.
  • Experience in leading large-scale transformations in infrastructure environments and track record in delivering mid- and long-term savings
  • Familiarity with ITIL practices, operational excellence frameworks, and service management best practices.

Leadership Skills:

  • Excellent leadership skills with a proven ability to manage large, distributed teams (30+ FTS) and middle managers while influencing others proactively
  • Ability to develop, implement & execute transformational strategies in a high-growth, dynamic environment.
  • Analytical & Problem-Solving: Demonstrated ability to use data to drive decisions, improve performance, and enhance efficiency across multiple sites and teams.
  • Ability to go up in the helicopter when needed and return to the detail when required
  • Communication: Fluent in English; proficiency in any Nordic language(s) is a strong advantage.

Key Competencies:

  • Strategic and transformational leadership with both analytical and hands-on approach.
  • Extensive experience managing large, multi-site Network operations.
  • Strong vendor and supplier management skills.
  • Expertise in team leadership, especially in managing 30+ FTS and middle managers.
  • Focus on operational excellence and innovation.
  • Excellent execution skills with a high level of robustness
