The Research Unit of Oto-Rhino-Laryngology (ORL) at the Department of Clinical Research, University of Southern Denmark (SDU) invites applications for a position as assistant professor in audiology to be filled from January 1, 2021 (or as soon as possible thereafter) for a period of three years with the possibility of extension or permanent appointment afterwards.
The successful candidate will join the Audiology Section of the ORL Research Unit. The Audiology Section is a fast-growing research group with focus on future clinical audiology in terms of both diagnosis and treatment of hearing loss. The group is part of a strong collaborative environment that includes Odense University Hospital, other faculties at SDU as well as private organizations.
Research tasks
The successful candidate will be expected to develop a research program in the field of audiology. Possible areas include (but are not limited to) vestibulogy, audiological measurement methods, cochlear implant treatment, pediatrics, or e-health. The direction of research will be dependent on the interests and qualifications of the successful candidate.
The successful applicant will also be expected to collaborate with other researchers from the Audiology Section, the ORL Research Unit, the hearing clinic at Odense University Hospital as well as other relevant departments and research units at SDU.
Teaching tasks
The successful candidate will be expected to support the audiology study program at SDU by carrying out teaching duties at both undergraduate and graduate level. The audiology study program has an intake of 35 students at the bachelor level and 20-25 students at the master level each year.
The successful applicant will be responsible for teaching both introductory and advanced courses in audiology (including audiological measurement methods). (S)he will also be responsible for developing new courses and for preparing the students for day-to-day clinical duties. Furthermore, s(he) will be responsible for (co-)supervising bachelor and master projects in audiology.
SDU works actively on developing future teaching methods, for example through e-learning or flipped classrooms. Documented experience with such methods will therefore be an advantage.
Administrative duties
The successful candidate will be expected to carry out some administrative duties related to the organization of the audiology study program.

- PhD degree in audiology, speech & hearing sciences or a related field
- Research experience as documented by international peer-reviewed journal articles and conference presentations in a related field
- Clinical audiological experience
- Experience with supervising student projects related to audiology
- Experience with teaching classes or courses related to audiology
